Static or customized age categories in AdMob

Hi, all. I'm not a developer, just a data analyst. I want to know, whether the targeting age in AdMob is limited to specified age categories or these categories may be specified by developer. Is there documents on these feature?

The developer can specify a birthday (details here) with a Date object. From there, age is extracted and bucketed. I can't confirm the exact bucket ranges, but I'm guessing they match the buckets that AdWords allows advertisers to target.
