Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out to us. However, I'm afraid that your concern is out of scope to our team as we can only provide assistance related to SDK implementation. The correct places to find support for consent issues are on the AdMob Forum if you are using AdMob, and Ad Manager Forum if you use Ad Manager. Also, you may find the Funding Choices Help Center helpful for setting up personalized consent messages that help inform users of the consequence of their consent choices.

Thanks for the reply,

But I just want to understand the error, and why I am getting this error.
Will it affect the revenue from the ads?

Hi there,

I'm afraid that we cannot provide an insight as this is out of scope to our team. We would recommend asking this to Product team, as the product specialist there would be able to provide a better insight regarding this.

I tried doing that here, but without any response.. I can only post on their 'community' forum or whatever that is. It seems impossible to directly ask them a question, or am I missing something?

@Nikunj: (for some reason the support team is very reluctant to provide any information about this, let me try to explain what I have learned thus far.)

"But I just want to understand the error, and why I am getting this error."

If the user does not consent, all consent toggles are switched off (that is probably the way it should be, I think that you get the same behavior on web sites). The problem is that somewhere in the back-end (Funding Choices I guess) triggers the error you mention, because of some missing consent, and because of that, AdMod does not serve an ad. It's ridiculous, it doesn't make sense, but Google doesn't seem to have any internal communication, nor are they willing to inform and help their users, who keep integrating UMP and start losing money. Check also this and this post for more on this issue.

"Will it affect the revenue from the ads?"

Yes, it will. I integrated UMP in one of my apps and revenue started dropping after a few days. I am about to release an update where I reverted back to the legacy consent.

Hi Bastiaan,

Thank you for the additional thoughts regarding this issue. We want everyone to know that we take this very seriously as we do with every issue that is presented to us. As each person has sent us in more information, this has been passed along to my team and we have discussed this many times.

In regards to the questions that are asked, I agree with what was said and would suggest that if someone is concerned about UMP that they are still fully able to use the legacy versions of our consent as that is still valid.

Hi Bastiaan,

Thanks for your reply,

If we do not integrate UMP SDK, then will it affect the revenue?

Hi regarding to williams answer here at the end :

Hi William,

but what is the result of your discussion in your team ? It would be nice to get at least an satisfying answer.

Will you leave UMP as it is  now and do nothing or or will you improve something (regarding to all of the reports)  ?

Will you at least improve it in the way that non personalized ads will be shown if the user hits in options only "send" without doing anything ?

Frank

Hi Frank,

Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention. We understand that you would like to know more about what is happening. At the moment all we can suggest is to keep an eye on our release notes. As this is the best place to keep track of what is happening.

Also once we have more information that we can pass along we will absolutely do it.

Current UMP SDK implementation is incorrect. Pressing More Options, then Submit both turns off all ads in our apps and results in that error warning in AdMob console. We never released a version with UMP to end users, so we know for sure how we got that error warning in AdMob.

Of cause, you can view questions of UMP SDK as "revenue related concerns" and simply shrug off what developers report to you. We expect UMP to work as a choice between personalised and non-personalised ads. If SDK team views it as providing a choice between ads and no ads, why don't you just add a note "You should use UMP SDK for gathering user consent only if you are not concerned with your revenue" at the top of UMP implementation guide?

Sorry for negativity, but these last replies directing people to AdMob and AdManager support are outright unprofessional ( We have a problem with UMP SDK functionality, not with anything else.

Hi John,

We understand the frustration of this. We are doing our best to investigate the issue. Other publishers also reported that setting up a new funding choices IDFA explainer messages solves this. If you're still getting no ads after doing the suggestion above, please provide a project (or at least a test project) via Reply privately to author option where you're seeing the behavior. This will greatly help us in our investigation.
