Hello everyone,

I am performing a few tests on an Android + adMob integration. I have
played with it for 2 or 3 days but since this morning I keep getting
the same ad everytime I request one. I even tried creating a new
account in adMob and I get the same result.

Does anyone know what could be happening?

Thanks,
Carlos

Testing on an emulator will always return a test ad for 4.x.

Maybe that's it...

Thanks for your reply Jim.

That is strange. In the last couple of days I was able to get "real" ads in the emulator. Got ads in French, English and Portuguese.

When I started getting the same ad over and over earlier today, I tried deploying the app to my real device and I get the same behavior. Event worst because in the emulator, if I set testing mode to true I see the test ad. In the device doesn't matter what I do I always get the same ad (it is not the test ad).

I am using version 4.1.1 by the way.

Any other ideas? :)

Thanks!
Cheers,
Carlos

Sounds like something is not quite right - the emulator should always
get test ads (if you look at the logcat, it clearly indicates in the
ad request that it is an emulator request). Weird, but whatever...

What about your filters and adsense backfill? Check the AdMob website
settings. You might have narrowed down the filters so that there is
only one available ad, especially with Adsense ads available...

Hey Carlos,

Since you are using version 4.1.0 or greater, also consider using the addTestDevice(AdRequest.TEST_EMULATOR) method instead of the setTesting(true).  You can optionally set a device for test mode too, by including your device id.  This new method is ideal because you can configure your app to run test ads on the emulator but real ads on any devices not specifically set for test mode.

Thanks,
Eric

Hi Jim!

No url filters set and the Google AdSense is enabled.

:(

Thanks again.

Thanks Eric!

The method you've mentioned worked in the device. I started getting test ads even in the device. The down side is that I have no means to see real ads coming in. I wanted to make sure it is working with real ads. And whenever I disable the test mode, I keep getting the same ad - this is not the test ad - over and over again.

Any other ideas?

Thanks a lot!

Carlos

Hey Carlos,

I'm not really sure how AdMob determines which ad to serve, but maybe there are variables involved like location, time of day, or maybe device model that affect what ad you get.  Perhaps try loading your app on a friend's device at a different location and time of day to try to change up some of these variables to see if that affects what ad you get?  Other than giving it some more time, that would be my next step.

Good luck,
Eric

Thanks Eric. Do you know if there is a link where I could download the 4.1.0 version for adMob SDK?

Cheers,
Carlos

Carlos,

Unfortunately we do not host old versions of the AdMob SDK on code.google.com.  You would have to try to search for it.  Is there a reason you want to try 4.1.0?  I would like to clarify that using an old SDK version is not a "variable" I had in mind to change.

Cheers,
Eric

I was going to give it a try. I have already changed everything else :)

Thanks for your help!

Let me know if you guys can think of something else.

You mentioned that you did not have URL filters - did you check
category filters? Especially, did you enable "Age Appropriate Ads" (if
that is what you want)? You could also use an app to spoof another
location, just to see what ads are available there.

Hey Jim!

Thanks for your post. I have no filters. The "Age Appropriate Ads" is disabled.

What I did, that seems to have masked the issue, is to apply a URL filter to ignore the single ad I was getting. Now I am getting other ads, sometimes compatible with the location I am setting.

Thanks a lot!
Carlos
