“admob-gmats.uc.r.appspot.com” data cross-border transferred

Hi SDK support team,

Our privacy team has confirmed the cross-border transfer of user data for "admob-gmats.uc.r.appspot.com". These ad requests originating in India are sent to a Google server in Hong Kong.

Can you help clarify what is the purpose of transferring data in these two regions?

Please be informed that this support channel can only best assist you with regards to direct Mobile Ads SDK implementation and technical issues. Note that the SDK just requests an ad to the ad server and does not have any control over server data. We recommend to reach out instead to Product Support team (https://support.google.com/admob/thread/new?hl=en) as they are better equipped in handling these concerns.

Thank you for guiding us to your product support team. Google Product Support Team suggested that we should contact SDK team instead.

For technical issue, we would like to know if it's possible to change the requested ad server. Keep requests in user countries. The Indian server responds to India's ad request, not to transmit across the border to HK.

Can you confirm if you are referring to using Mediation (https://developers.google.com/admob/android/mediate)? AdMob mediation is a feature that lets you serve ads to your apps from multiple sources, including the AdMob Network, third-party ad networks, and AdMob campaigns. Kindly check this out and see if it fits to your use case. If not, kindly elaborate your use case so we can give precise guidance.

Hi Support team,

No, we have our own internal in-house mediation and only use the GMA SDK as an ad network. As we are now preparing to integrate the GMA SDK into one of our app, our privacy team has discovered that ad requests originating in India are being sent to Google servers in HK. This may result in user data being transferred across borders (From IN to HK). Please kindly let us know why the ad request is sent to the Hong Kong server and how we can keep these ad requests in the same country (India).

Hi Aeryn,

I'm not sure exactly why it's triggering a cross-border transfer, but I'm responding to confirm that the admob-gmats.uc.r.appspot.com url is used to load Ad Inspector tool. Ad Inspector is only triggered when you're testing, not your users in production. Additionally, the URL request to that domain doesn't send through and key/value params.
