Hi Dzung,

This was mentioned in one of our recent blog posts regarding the Release of Version 7.24.1 of the Mobile Ads SDK for iOS which outlines the recommended implementations on the iPhone X and includes mentioning a future update of the SDK to address your concern:

For interstitials and rewarded video ads, we're working to ensure all controls and important content are also placed within the safe area. Keep an eye out for another Google Mobile Ads SDK release ahead of the iPhone X release date.

Let me know if you have any further concerns.

Hello Joshua,

I have read that, but mean i must waiting next release SDK for iPhone X compatible interstitial? Or you can do in the server side with version 7.24.1?
Because i want release an compatible version before iPhone X release date, you can do and test with simulator and release an ready SDK version.

Hi Dzung,

That would be correct. The current version of the SDK (7.24.1 as of writing) does not handle this use-case properly as of the moment. However, as mentioned in the blog post, the SDK should be updated to properly handle this before the release date of the iPhone X, so you should be safe.

Hi Dzung,

I'm afraid we are not able to comment on when the new version will be released. However, as mentioned in the blog post, rest assured that the SDK will be updated before the iPhone X is released.

With that said, I would recommend that you closely monitor our Release Notes.

Hi Joshua,

What about v7.25.0 - could you confirmed the issue is resolved in this update?
I can't find anything that in the Release Notes.

Thank you!

P.S. It looks like the issue is still unresolved with v7.25

Do you have any estimation about update?

Same. Google, saying it will be released before iPhone X is too vague. The X will be in people's hands in the next 6 days. You need to give devs time to update and then we have to wait for Apple to approve our app updates to be released in the AppStore. This is cutting it way too close.

Hi, Stephen. I'm Andrew, another member of the support team here.

I just checked with our lead iOS engineer, and we're expecting a 7.25.1 release of the SDK in the next few days. That release will contain a fix designed to address this specific issue.

You'll be able to find the release notes here when it goes out the door:

But I'll make a point to update this thread as well.

Andrew, thanks, but still waiting...  iPhone X will be in people's hands TOMORROW, and we're still waiting for AdMob Interstitials to support it... Even if you release tomorrow, it's another week by the time devs update, test, push to Apple and wait for Apple to approve. So at least 1 week with this poor user experience. Not impressed...

Andrew, Joshua,

do you have any update?  iPhone X is live and it's really important to understand whether we can use AdMob interstitial on this device or not.

Thank you,
Andriy

Word from the engineering team is that in place of a patch release (7.25.1), the fix for the close button issue will be rolled into the next full SDK release, 7.26.0. It's currently being tested, and we should have it out the door early next week.

It is more than a month, and your team still not release a version to fix this issues. It mean our app delay release too.
I don't know how many member in your team and your internal testing process. But this is so slow, Apple release emulator for iPhone X months before i report this bug.

Andrew, what's your definition of 'early next week'? As it's now Thursday and we're still waiting..

Friday, as it turned out. The new version of the SDK, 7.26.0, has been released and is available for download here:

https://developers.google.com/admob/ios/download

The podspec for the SDK has also been updated with the latest version.

This release includes a fix for the interstitial close button issue as well as a small change to our native APIs.

Thanks for update. I have setup with cocoapods last version. But i am not working with Firebase/AdMob pods file. I am following the warning. What you need to do for a solution ?

Thanks.

That's unexpected. Could you post a copy of your podfile so I can see what might be going on? Alternatively, you can check out one of the podfiles used by our examples:

My podfile is below. I could use two pods together ('Firebase/AdMob' and 'Google-Mobile-Ads-SDK')  But the new version (7.26.0) gives an error. Maybe, I am not need to use 'Firebase/AdMob' Pod.

Thanks.

platform :ios, 9.3

target 'AltimeterApp' do

   use_frameworks!
   pod 'OneSignal'
   pod 'Firebase/Core'
   pod 'Firebase/AdMob'
   pod 'Firebase/Performance'
   pod 'Google-Mobile-Ads-SDK'
   pod 'Countly'
   pod 'Fabric'
   pod 'Crashlytics'
   pod 'EasyTipView'

end

Ah, I see you're using both the Firebase/AdMob pod and the Google-Mobile-Ads-SDK pod. It's not necessary to use both, as they both contain the SDK code needed to load and display ads. If you're using Firebase, then Firebase/AdMob is the only AdMob-related pod you need.

Because the two pods are maintained by separate teams, every once in a while they have a temporary version mismatch due to different release schedules. I'd wager that's the cause of the issue you're seeing, and that removing Google-Mobile-Ads-SDK from your Podfile will fix it.

Hi Andrew.

I'm using the latest version of your SDK: afma-sdk-i-v7.27.0, and the problem still exists when running on iPhone X. The countdown and then the closebutton is hidden from the user.

Please adress this issue.

Thank you and best regards

Hi again.

Just an update.
When running in the simulator it seems to work with black "Letterboxes" in the upper and lower part of the screen.
But when running on real device no letterboxing. See these two images:

Thanx

Try switching from the Firebase/Admob repo to the Google-Mobile-Ads-SDK, I get 7.28.0 from there vs 2.27.0 from Firebase. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to fix the problem, it appears to me to be a problem with the ads not being formatted correctly for the iPhone X's screen.

Thanks, that resolved my problem. It's crazy that it's still not solved. I guess I'll never use "Firebase/Admob" again. I always thought it's exactly the same (and updated at the same time as well).
