Desktop Application in app advertising?

I thought that AdSense in applications was prohibited, yet I keep running into mainstream applications that use ads in the software with seemingly no backlash.

Does AdMob allow for desktop integration? Can anybody point me in the correct direction for how to go about doing this as I am also a free application developer and would rather use a more trusted company like Google to show ads in my apps than some of the more shady ones that I have used that keep showing questionable content.

Hi Joshua,

Thanks for reaching out to support. AdMob is only for Native Mobile integration (iOS and Android). You would not be able to integrate into Desktop/Web apps with AdMob.

Hi Joshua,

We don't have that facility in Admob currently. AdMob is only meant for Native Mobile Ads implementation and not for Desktop/WebApps. You can go though our Admob and AdSense pages for more information.

All you did was repeat the same thing, It still doesn't explain why some applications are allowed to do it. What must I do to get whatever exemption that these guys apparently have?

The banner ad placement that you notice in the screenshot you have attached is not from our AdMob network or from our Mobile Ads SDK. We only deal with Native Mobile implementation and this is outside the scope of our AdMob product. You would have to contact AdSense for this.
