Hello,

I have a some questions about COPPA compliance. It' very unclear for me, I tried to understand the rules for a while to be in compliance with them, without success !

The facts :
My app is like a virtual pet. My audience is general, both kids under 13 years old and adult. But my app is NOT primary child-directed, then I'm not eligible for google program Designed for families.
I don' have integrate an age-gate then I never know the player age.

My questions :
1. As I don't know my player's age, should I set "tagForChildDirectedTreatment" to true or false ?
2. Can I use mediation ? If yes and answer to 1 is no, using Unity Ads, should I set the option in Unity ads Dashboard "This game is directed to children under the age of 13 in the United States" to yes ?
3. If I set "tagForChildDirectedTreatment" , should I use AdMob Ad Content Filtering to avoid adult ads or is it manage by the tag ?

I think it's a good start to discuss :)
Thanks !

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us. Since this is more of a product related question, please refer to the help center articles below which might help you with this:
That said, AdMob currently does not allow Mediation for apps which are enrolled for Designed for families program. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello,

I finally get a google contact from privacy policy. But unfortunately they said me they are not able to answer me.
So I come back here but with more relative question to AdMob :

1. Is it allowed in a same app to set "tagForChildDirectedTreatment" to true for a player under 13 yo and false to a player above 13yo ?
2. Is it allowed to use mediation if "tagForChildDirectedTreatment" is false
3. if "tagForChildDirectedTreatment" is true but mediation is enable, does Admob automatically block the mediation ?
4. If I don't block a sensitive category on AdMob (casual game for example) but include a max content filtering to PG(7+), Is it sure inappropriate ads from sensitive category will not be shown ?

Thanks a lot !

Hello,

We will not be able to comment on specific app implementations or any policy concerns. However, in this scenario, you will be able to use Designed for families with primary as child directed by declaring the max_ad_content_rating values in the Ad Request. Please refer to this guide. If you have all other targeting settings disabled, then you will be able to use Mediation as mentioned in this guide. For any other policy related concerns, you will need to contact the AdMob Product Support Team

Hello,

Thanks for your support, I understand you are not able to answer a policy concern, I think nobody is able even the google policy team, which is a bit crazy for me as I don't ask an advice but information about the rules.

Anyway, I will ask you a last simple question, if you can't answer, as a promess I give up.
It's not policy question, just technical understanding of AdMob.

Let's try en extreme example :
If the sensitive category "Reference to sex & sexuality" is enable, and the API in game only allow a max_ad_content_rating to G(3+). Then is it sure the ads from the category will not be shown ?

Thanks !

Hello,

Based on this documentation, if the Reference to sex & sexuality is enabled, you will be able to block ads from this category. However, sensitive category blocking is available for ads in a limited set of languages, regardless of the language of the app.

That said, we only handle technical Mobile Ads SDK related implementation issues on this forum. If you have any further concerns, you can reach out to the AdMob Product Support Team.

Thanks for taking time to answer me. The links was helpfull.

I would like to know one more thing. I set "tagForChildDirectedTreatment" to true and in the logcat After invoking the tag, I saw the tag "Is_Designed_for_Families" was set to true also.
Is that Normal, may be these 2 tags are linked ?!Or is it possible to set "Is_Designed_for_Families" to false and "tagForChildDirectedTreatment" to yes if I'm not in the design for families program ?

Thanks !

Hi there,

Bharani is OOO and I'll be assisting you with your issue-

They're two different settings. The Help center has a guide that covers some of the details regarding this and you go through it.

Hi,
Thanks for your support !
I checked the link but my app is not design for families.
I would like to know if I can set "tagForChildDirectTreatment" to true and "Is_Designed_For_Families" to false.
or if I activate one implies that the other must be activated too ?

Hi there,

No this is in the case and both are independent. Are you noticing this issue with our sample apps? If so, can you tell us what steps you took to reproduce this locally? We will then have a look into this issue.
