Did someone mess up while trying to shut down legacy AdMob and inadvertently down the rest of the AdMob service?

I got in contact with someone on support and they're looking into our issue. We're not getting served ads all of a sudden today and we suspect it might have something to do with the legacy migration (even though we migrated long ago). Also we're almost certain the main website was down a few hours ago.

We're seeing outage since about 8 hours ago as well. We are seeing outage on AdMob mediation. We initially thought it was related to legacy AdUnitID's even though we had already updated all of our apps in late July to use new single app id's. We are seeing this error:

 Failed receiving interstitial with error Error Domain=com.google.ads Code=1 "Request Error: No ad to show." UserInfo=0x1940c260 {NSLocalizedDescription=Request Error: No ad to show., NSLocalizedFailureReason=Request Error: No ad to show.}

This is all on iOS BTW.

To test, we added new ad units and apps and tested them as well. This is what we would see even with brand new apps and ad unit id's we created an hour ago to test this:
- If we left the ad unit with only AdMob interstitials we could see AdMob interstitials
- Once we add another network to mediate and it takes effect in AdMob's mediation system (about 10 minutes after submitted change), we would see the same thing as before.

Everything was working fine 8 hours ago.

Ads are down on my three apps since about 8 hours ago.  I migrated from legacy admob in August of 2013.  I have not updated to the Google Play services sdk yet, so maybe that's the issue?

Thanks.

Just checked some of our apps. It does seem to be up again. Haven't had a chance to check if all our mediation networks are getting through though.

hi all,

i just checked our yesterday's stats. They are 35% down. All revenue,
impressions, are down 35%.

Ads are working right now with legacy ids as well.

May be ads were down for a while because of their switch going on.
(may be 7 hours i guess.. Ads are up right now in all our apps with
legacy ids.)

Thanks
Raj

Hi,

We already upgraded to new admob long back and ad serving and performance to our apps were normal till Yesterday (half day). But then there was no ad serving for around 10 hours to our apps with legacy ad units, which resulted in total revenue loss for that time yesterday. Today ad serving started but impression count (and hence revenue) is 30-40% less than normal. Still few apps are not getting ads, observed that particular app gets ads in one device but fails to get ads in other device. We get following exceptions when ad serving fails. There is still definitely some issue with ad serving and ad impression number is less than normal (30-40% less as of now). Also spoke to other developers and they also reported same issue. Request your advise/action to resolve this as this is resulting in revenue loss for us. Thanks.

I'm getting the same:

1 September 2014: Normal
2 September 2014: Number of requests is 29.8% lower than normal. Revenue reduced as well
3 September 2014: Number of requests is about 40-50% lower than normal. Revenue reduced a lot.

This is for legacy AdMob.

I get very similar results, sudden drop in the total number of requests for the last two days.

September 1st: normal number of request.
September 2nd: drop in the 30% range in total number of requests.
September 3nd: also a drop in the 30% range in total number of requests.

Econ, ctr,...they all stay in the same values as usual so the impact on revenue is also in the 30% range for the last two days.

Hi guys,

Can we try to help AdMob isolate the issue? Could someone confirm if they are experiencing the issue for non-legacy ad units?

So far based on the posts all impacted ad units are legacy. Including all my ad units where I see a consistent 30ish% drop in requests since September 2.

Thanks,
Diego.

Same issue here.
Number of requests is about 30-50% lower than normal since 9/2.

(for old AdMob sdk 6.3.1 and legacy ad ids)

I have also seen a very sharp 30+ decrease, when compared to that day from the previous weeks, in my ad revenue/traffic starting Sept 1 and peaking on Sept 2. I thought it was due to the itunes downage but that is alleged to have lasted only 5.5 hours? I am using the new Admob on both ios/android.

Same here 30% down last 2 days and today seems worse. Admob won't reply or fix it, they never do.

As previously announced, we started to sunset the legacy AdMob system this week and completed the process on 2 September. For a limited time, this led to some unexpected behavior resulting in ads not serving for apps containing older versions of the Google Mobile Ads SDK for iOS (version 6.5.1 and below) and Android (version 6.4.1 and below). Publishers using these older SDKs on both the legacy and new AdMob platforms, DoubleClick for Publishers, and Ad Exchange In-App, were affected by this issue.

Our engineering team identified the problem quickly and worked to restore the service within hours. We apologize for any ad serving outage you may have experienced during this time.

Hi Amy,

Thanks for this information.

Outage caused on 2-September is one part but bigger problem for us (and I suppose for many others in this thread) is impression drop of 40% caused due to that issue. Today is third straight day with 40% less impressions and revenue for us. Even if we update all our apps with latest sdks, we are not sure if this issue will be resolved in immediate future as many/majority of our users still use app versions with legacy sdks.

Regards.

Amy, this definately has not been resolved. Your response is somewhat dismissive of the problems we are reporting. Please raise and investigate this issue. Developers are losing money due to this 'we fixed it' attitude, you haven't fixed it!!

I have the same issue.

I have the new admob and also use admob thought Google play. However, my revenue and traffic started to decrease dropped since the 1. September until now.
It's getting worst with the time.

1. Sept ----    -10% (Revenu and traffic)
2. Sept ----    -20% (Revenu and traffic)
3. Sept ----    -30% (Revenu and traffic)
4. Sept ----    -40% (Revenu and traffic)
5. Sept ----    It look like it will stay between (-35 and 40%) or maybe a -50%, due the fact that the installation on my app increase day by day.

Please please fix this issue!
