Hi there,

We have an app using native express ads.

The app released yesterday. All units are supposed to be like this:

But sometimes some ads look like banner Ads, for example:

Kindly let us know how to avoid this kind of ads.

Thank you!

Warm Regards,
Nestia

Hi Nestia,

Could you test your Ad Unit ID/s in question with our sample app and see if the issue persists?

To help us investigate further, could you provide us the following?
  • Ad Unit ID/s in question
  • Charles logs (with SSL Proxying enabled) captured when Banner ads appeared
  • Code implementation (particularly the Ad Request part)
Regards,
Ivan Bautista

Hi Ivan,

Thank you for your reply.

For iOS:
The case I mentioned above is not easy to reproduce in iOS every time. But one of our users did get the screenshot:

I checked Charles log and found that, even though the ads displayed in right format, there is still one request failed with status code 400 every time. Below is the screenshot:

The "/getconfig/pubsetting" always responses with error.

And as you required, the unit id for iOS is "ca-app-pub-1182739567323523/4235275290".
And here's the implementation:

For Android:

The unit id is "ca-app-pub-1182739567323523/1694584894".
Later I will post the charles log and implementation from our Android team.

Regards,
Nestia

Hi Nestia,

I've tested your Ad Unit IDs for both iOS and Android on our end and wasn't able to replicate the issue. Have you tried with our sample app (Android/iOS) and checked if the issue persists?

While waiting for the other items from your Android team, could you provide us the Charles log file captured during the time the issue was encountered so we could look into it?

Hi Ivan,

Thank you so much for your reply. Our iOS team cannot replicate the issue either, but keep receiving bug reports.
And before our Android get back to this issue, could you please give some response for the request failure of the API "/getconfig/pubsetting", as illustrated in the screenshot above?

Regards,
Nestia

Hi Nestia,

Looking at the screenshot, the /mads/gma query is going through and that's the important one. I think some pages deny the charles certificate which might be the case for that request failure captured in your charles logs. But as mentioned earlier, if you could provide us the actual Charles logs file, we could look further into it.

Hi Ivan,

Our testing team is trying to capture the charles log when the wrong format ads appear, but it is hard to replicate. However I did find the wrong format ads in AD REVIEW CENTER (which is supposed to be the ads histories displayed in our app, right?):

As I mentioned in previous posts, the unit id we set is intended to get the ads format as follows:

May I ask any possibility makes that happened?

Nestia

Hi Nestia,

Yes, the ads that you see in the Shown tab of the Ad Review Center are ads that have already appeared from one of the apps in that account. Could you confirm if you created other types of Ad Units aside from Native Ads from at least one of those apps since you've created that account?

Also, while we're investigating on the cause, you can try blocking those banner ads for the meantime to prevent them from showing in your NativeExpressAdViews.

Hi Ivan,

We confirm that there is only native express ad we are using. Screenshots from backstage are attached.

About those wrong ads, we will block from the backstage first.

Looking forward to hear from you about the investigate results.

Thank you very much for your support.

Regards,
Nestia

Hi Nestia,

The team got back to me and confirmed that AdMob is running a small network-wide experiment to see how banners perform in a native express placement. This will only affect a small subset of your native express app traffic for a short period of time while the experiment is running.

Hi Ivan,

Is it possible for removing us from the experiment?

The reason why I am asking for this is that the height of our native ads are fixed, so the size of banner ads do not fit it.
There will be an empty area in our page. We think it affects our user experience.

Thank you for your support.

Warm Regards,
Nestia

Hi Nestia,

As for removing your account from the experiment, I'm afraid our team doesn't handle that because we are only limited to technical questions related to integration of the Mobile Ads SDK. However, you may confirm with the AdMob Product Support team if that is possible on their end.
