Interstitial Ads and focus move on Android TV

I tried AdMob Interstitial Ads on Android TV. This must be controlled with D-pad game controller, but the close button at upper left corner is not able to select by D-pad.

We can use back button for close interstitial ads but can not select close button.

My environment is ADT-1 (LPX13D) with Google Play services version 6.1.74 (1511752-036).

My application's target SDK is 21 and using Google Play Services client library (rev 20)

Although it may work for the most part, AdMob doesn't officially support Android TV yet.

The close button is added by the SDK separately while the rest of the content is part of the WebView. So that would explain why the D-pad, if scrolling through the WebView content, isn't finding the close button.

Are there any updates on the topic?  I'm just finishing up Android TV support for my app, and it already has interstitial ad for handheld. I would love to add the ad to the Android TV module as well.  I'm also wondering whether AdMob would land on watches as well soon.

Hi, same question.

Any update ? Admob seems to run with no additionnal work on AndroidTV (Ad is loading correctly) ?
Is it fine to use it or it is forbidden?

(Notice, after the Ad loads (loadRequest), there is an ANR on my box (which does not happen with no Ads))

 I just submitted an App for Android TV containing SmartBanners and Interstitials served by AdMob. The app was rejected, both Ad Types were marked as not suitable for Android TV.

So quite obviously it seems that we cannot use AdMob when targeting Android TV. We now have beginning of 2017 and lots of Android TV boxes and sticks are out there, wouldn't it be time to tackle that ?

I'm afraid that the AdMob SDK still does not officially support Android TV as of the moment. Kindly note that this is an ongoing feature request, currently being reviewed by the team for feasibility purposes. In the meantime, you may follow our blog or release notes for any possible updates on this topic.

 

As for other concerns related to monetization of ads on Android TV (such as alternate options for doing so): I would suggest reaching out to the AdMob Help Center for further assistance on the same, as we can only assist with technical concerns related to the AdMob SDK. The product specialists there should be able to provide better insights on such.
