Right now we have a bunch of ad-unit-ids:
  1. https://developers.google.com/admob/android/app-open#always_test_with_test_ads
  2. https://developers.google.com/admob/android/banner#always_test_with_test_ads
  3. https://developers.google.com/admob/android/banner/fixed-size#add-adview
  4. https://groups.google.com/g/google-admob-ads-sdk/c/sENzJ0kycfE
  5. https://developers.google.com/admob/android/interstitial#always_test_with_test_ads
  6. https://developers.google.com/admob/android/rewarded-interstitial#load_an_ad_2
  7. https://developers.google.com/admob/android/rewarded#always_test_with_test_ads
  8. https://developers.google.com/admob/android/native/video-ads

My request is that instead of having some random characters for each, have one that is in a form of a template, that each part makes sense of what it is, what are its characteristics, etc...

For example, for native ads we could tell it what is the size of the media (width&height), whether it would be an image or a video, etc...
All defined in the ad-unit ID itself.

Alternative, we could also have the random configurations set on the website itself, so that each time the app uses the testing ad-unit-IDs, it would pick a random configuration from the website itself.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting the Mobile Ads SDK Support team.

Please note that the ad unit ID is generated by AdMob and cannot be customized.

Kindly reach out to us, if you need any further assistance.

That's the point of the request. I already know it's all static and fixed.
The problem is that what we get isn't flexible at all. Doesn't change its content to a wide range of possibilities as the real ads.
So, please consider adding this functionality, using either methods I've written, which are:
1. Have the ad work based on what's in the ad-unit ID itself, just as what we have for URLs on web browsers, as they query the server for information.
2. Have the ad work based on what's set via the website, as Admob Servers will handle it from there, by using the ID of the app to identify what rules to set for each test ad-unit.

Hi Liran,

Thank you for the suggestion. However, the suggested request is not possible at this time in AdMob. If you want to change the ad unit ID then AdManager can be a good fit for your case.

Hi Liran,

The requested modifications are not applicable in AdMob, But in AdManager, it could happen, For example, have a look at Demo ad unit IDs: /21775744923/example/app-open, /21775744923/example/adaptive-banner.

That doesn't seem to be the same. All I can see in your example is the type of the ad. Where for example I can choose the size of the media (width&height) ?
Also please stop neglecting Admob and keep telling me of AdManager. You already told me that AdManager shouldn't be used for various cases and that it's ok to keep using Admob SDK.
I asked why not merging them and have a consistent SDK that offers as much as possible, and you told me that it's just the way it is.

Hi Liran,

AdMob is Google's automatic ad exchange for mobile apps, while Google Ad Manager can manage ad exchanges from both web pages and mobile apps. Admob is primarily designed for small and medium-sized app developers, while Ad Manager is geared towards larger enterprises with more complex ad management needs.

The decision to keep Admob and Ad Manager as separate platforms likely stems from a combination of feature set factor. And as per your query you wanted to create custom adUnit in which you could identify units by size values etc. For this we already suggested to use ad manager instead of AdMob.

Kindly get back to us if you have any issue related to integration of Mobile Ads SDK.

So why not add it to Admob? I use Admob. Are there any disadvantages to switch to Ad-Manager? Cost? Features?
Why have different features? Such a thing should be possible on both Android and web. Doesn't make sense at all.
This is the same confusing approach Google has for chat&video&audio chat. So many products have the same functionality, so many that many of them just went away. Google Chat, Hangouts, Meet, Allo, Duo, Talk, Voice...
Just take all features and have one product that works well for all, with proper docs that have a consistent explanation. Just recently I've noticed that Admob rules say we should have "Ad" at the top, yet in many screenshots and repositories Admob didn't follow its own rules of it...
So much mess for an SDK that's supposed to be the most popular and easiest to use.

Also, you haven't shown how it's customizable. Where can you set for example the various possible resolutions of the native ad media?
What was customized in the examples you've provided?

Hi Des Monique,

Thank you for contacting the Mobile Ads SDK Support team.

There are two ways to set up an app in AdMob

  • Published: Choose this option if you’ve tested your app and you believe it’s ready to serve ads. If your app is published in a store that AdMob supports and you link the store in your AdMob account, your app will be automatically reviewed after you set it up in AdMob. Learn how to monitor the status of your review and your app’s ad serving
  • Unpublished: Choose this option if you still need to test your app. You can also choose this option if your app is in a store that AdMob doesn’t support. Note that you'll need to come back to AdMob and link the app to a supported app store in order for your app to be marked as published and eligible for review.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
