I'm considering supplying user location via setLocation(), but I only
if it is "worth it". Some users won't like such a thing so
implementing this will cost me ... something, since I will, of course,
let the user know that I'm doing this.

The question is this: Does anyone have any information they'd be
willing to share with the group about what, if any, increases in
revenue they've seen from using user location?

Unfortunately, I don't have any hard numbers to share with you regarding increases in revenue around location as it varies between publishers and depends on optimization.

Probably the most important advice I can give you is that we'd like to start supplying more local formats (like hyperlocal: http://googlemobileads.blogspot.com/2010/09/new-hyperlocal-ad-feature-provides.html), and location is going to be the key that unlocks this inventory.  It might potentially mean more money, but will definitely mean more relevant advertising for end users.

Cheers,
Wes

I would hope that more relevant ads would automatically mean more
revenue.

So, can you give developers *any* good reason to implement location
reporting at this time?

As it stands, it sounds like I don't have any reason to use this at
the moment.

If your app doesn't already make use of the user's location, then I would actually advise against its inclusion out of respect for user privacy.  You shouldn't feel obligated to send us location information.

I second that.

a) your users will hate you publicly if they're asked about GPS
authorization and it's only for the ads
b) if this app is bound to the iOS appstore, it will be rejected for
that. They clearly state that using the location services solely for
ads is forbidden.

Actually, I already do use user location (via the network provider) in my Android app.  I'm just not really getting any info about any benefits to the developer of sharing this with AdMob.  Especially with user concerns about privacy.

Can you just tell us straight out if there are any current benefits to the developer of sharing user location?

Regards,

Dustin
