InterstitialAd do not close when onBackPressed

Some time when InterstitialAd showed, pressed back button it did not closed, but pressed close button inside the IntersititialAd it closed.

I had tried other Ad unit ID and test-ads( https://developers.google.com/admob/android/test-ads  ), show InterstitialAd according to the docs, it was the same with before. And I found other app has  InterstitialAd   in this devices can not close ad when back button pressed.

Devices: Samsung S9+, Redmi 6 pro and some Huawei devices

I checked out our sample interstitial project with our test ad unit ID, and can confirm that the Android back button does, in fact, not close interstitial ads even on the Android emulator. I'll be filing a bug report in order for this to get fixed as soon as possible. Thank you for reporting this.

Thank you for your patience on this concern.

The team has concluded that this is working as intended. We are releasing a feature where the back button is not enabled during interstitial videos on Android, and to close the ad the user needs to click the "close" button vs hitting the back button.

We see a benefit to all parties: users will now have a consistent way to exit interstitial videos on Android from all advertising networks, advertisers may see higher conversions on their ads, and publishers could see an increase in revenue. This helps us align with the industry standard across networks where the "close" button is already the default option for many of our partners.
