Some of Rewarded Video SSV callback has no user_id

Hi

We're using Admob SDK for iOS and Android for a while.
Our server receives SSV callback from Google's servers, and we use user_id which is set in SDK to reward users.
We have 2 Ad networks , Admob and Facebook.

Recently our server started to get callback without user_id, but only small potion.
Most of callbacks are still working fine.
And all these incorrect callback is from Admob network. No Facebook one.

Is there any change recently or any modification we should take care of?

Hi Jo,

I am on TeeJay's team. Thank you for for giving us privately your app Id, ad unit Id's and SDK and adaptor versions. This will help us investigate. To help us further, could you also send us the following:
  • sample app with minimum extra setup based on our sample app that can replicate the issue (iOS here, Android here)
  • specific phones or OS versions that has this problem
  • Charles log (SSL proxying must be enabled instructions for Android N and up ) of the reward not going through

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Having looked over this post. I would ask if you can share via "reply to author" button with sample app that shows what is causing this issue. Also if you have a Charles log for when this is happening. These will help us to look more into this issue for you.

I have no logs because it only happens with some clients. For the most of the clients, it works properly.

Do kindly note that user_id would not be present in an SSV callback if these values weren't provided by the app in the first place; kindly see this page for details. However, it's odd that it doesn't occur on your all app's users. With this, would it be possible for you to provide the following details via Reply privately to author option?
  • App ID
  • Rewarded Ad Unit ID in question
  • Frequency of occurrence
  • List of devices getting the behavior
Also, are you using the latest version of the SDK? If not, could you please update your SDK version, then monitor if the issue still persists?

Hey,

Thank you for the answer.

Actually, user_id is set and it works for most of the users. Also, for some users, it stops working for a couple of days and starts again.

Reply privately is disabled for me.

It is hard to say Frequency, because we only know it from user feedbacks and not sure but about 1%.

You could send it as a shareable link. If you have a reliable method of replicating the issue that would also help us greatly in our investigation.

Thank you for the information on when this occurs and that for those users who experience it that it takes a few days to clear. To diagnose we would need a way to replicate the issue. As I mentioned before, "reply to author" is disabled for me.

Also, should I send whole project? The applications is based on Cordova and I'm using plugin for admob.

If "Reply to Author" is still unavailable to you then you may use our testing alias mobileads...@gmail.com to send the project or a shareable link. If you take that route then please update us on this thread that you did so.

Regarding Cordova project, unfortunately we don't support it. We will need a native bare bones app based on our SSV Guide using our Rewarded Video Example as a base to rule out implementation issues. It will help us if an intuition about how this issue occurs comes up and we can replicate it in your app.

As far as I have Cordova project, I can share the part of the code, where rewarded ad is requested:



Also, I'm using the last version of the sdk.

 I have no clue when and how it happens, as well as it comes on random devices and we can not repeat the case.

I can share the video, recorded by user, who claims that it used to work (I can confirm that it did, we have records in db) and then it stopped working.
He tried to uninstall app and install it again several times but nothing changed.

As mentioned by my colleague, Aryeh, we could only assists you with regard to the code implementation of the Mobile Ads SDK using the following platforms (Android, iOS, Unity, Cocos2d-x). I'm afraid that we don't have the visibility on how the AdMob SDK rewarded SSV is implemented on Cordova and can't assure you that its feature will work as expected.

Are you using some kind of a Cordova plugin integrated with AdMob? If so, we would recommend to reach out to their specific github repos for further assistance on this.

Well, actually, Cordova is a Android native app at the low end and yes, I use plugin which is developed by me and I'm using AdMob Android SDK and I posted JAVA code of the using of it. If you have further question about using SDK, I'm here to answer

Hi Mishiko,

Thank you for the response back. As stated we are very limited in what we can support as the addition of Cordova has added elements to the code that could be causing issues. With that in mind we are unable to support it and would suggest contacting the Cordova support with this. Also the addition of your own plugin might be conflicting with the SDK. Again something we are unable to support. As previously stated we would suggest that you look at the documents for the SSV and the Reward Ads.

Hi Mishiko,

You can try Charles Logging and see the calls to your server. Let me bring up your request for a logging API that can expose SSV calls up to my team. You may monitor our blog for an update. We would need a reliable way to replicate this issue to have a clear path for resolution.

Thank you for responding back. While we have look at this we are not able to get the same results as you have mentioned. We would need a full code implementation. the other issue is that we do not support the Cordova framework, so we are very very limited on how much we can help you their. We generally suggest for people to use the Cordova Forums to ask about this. The other part is we need to know repeatable steps that give us an accurate return so that we can look to see what the actual issue is. If you can get us some of these items we will look more into this for you.

Exactly the same problem started happening to us around April 10th with no implementation change on our side, (we updated Unity though from 2019.4.18 to 2019.4.23, and also added the Facebook Mediation package).

Up until then we didn't experience any issues with SSV callbacks, from there on we randomly don't receive user_id or custom_data on our callbacks. 

Further info:

Unity 2019.4.23f (now 2019.4.26f)
GoogleMobileAds-v5.4.0 (for unity)
GoogleMobileAdsFacebookMediation-v3.2.0 (for unity)
Find attached our server logs for missing user_ids from Apr 1th (200 a day tops from an average of 1.2K impressions)

Thank you for bringing your issue to our attention. We would first ask if it would be possible to open a new thread so that we can gather the following information as well as make sure that we are focusing to help you.
  • A brief description of what you are seeing. But from a user side as well as from your server.
  • A simple sample app that is able to display this issue.
  • Steps to reproduce the results that you mentioned.
  • Also have you contacted our Product Support Team , as this could also be a server side issue with data just not returning properly.
  • Any Charles logs that display this.
