Hi, All

I got some questions about the headline truncate of the Native Ads.

After reading the policy page, the headline `May truncate after` 25 characters.

My questions are:

1. If the size of the headlines is less than 25 characters, for example, 17 characters, Can I truncate the headline?

2. If the size of the headlines is more than 25 characters,  Can I truncate the headline after the 10th character?

Thanks very much.

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

According to the policy page you linked, the headline of a native ad may be truncated after 25 characters. This means that you can truncate the headline after 25 characters, but if the headline is less than 25 characters long, you do not need to truncate it. To answer your questions, your both questions are not recommended, as truncating either in after 17 characters or 25 characters then truncating after 10 characters is not recommended as per the policy article. You may also check this article (https://support.google.com/admob/answer/6329638?hl=en&ref_topic=7384666&sjid=15289639488855362483-AP) for Native ads policies & guidelines as it mentioned that you need to ensure that there is no truncation of text up to 25 characters, and this (https://support.google.com/admob/answer/6240814?hl=en&ref_topic=7384666&sjid=15289639488855362483-AP) native ads policy compliance checklist.

I hope this answers your questions. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Additional information:

  • The policy page also states that you can use an ellipsis ( "...") to indicate that the headline has been truncated.
  • You should also make sure that the truncated headline is still understandable and relevant to the ad.
  • If you are unsure whether to truncate the headline, it is always best to err on the side of caution and leave it untruncated.

Thanks for your kind reply.

Is this rule required to be enforced? What happened if I truncate the headline before 25 characters?

I saw some native ads truncate the headline before 25 characters which publisher have 100M+ downloads.

Hello,

We recommend following the 25 characters before truncating policy. If caught, you may be subject to a violation. However, as long as the description is not entirely disrupted or has been made too vague, some leeway may be allowed like the apps you've mentioned. Even with that, we still encourage to follow the 25 characters before truncating policy to avoid any violations.
