How to hide banner in windows phone?

Hi, i want to hide a banner when an event happens. I'll try with DrawingSurfaceBackgroud.Children.Remove(banner); but the app crashes. I'll try with banner.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; but still crashes. Is there anyone that can help me? Thank you so much! :)
