Hi,

I have an image creative setup on Google Ad Manager. Under it's settings the click-to-app URL has been set to https://www.google.com/test/123. The app loads fine on the app and when tapped, the link is opened on a browser out of the app.

I want to be able to detect the url, either when the ad is loaded or when user taps the ad, and do some action based on url within my app (also prevent the browser from opening).

I have tried didReceiveAppEvent delegate but it does not work for click-to-app URL.

Any suggestions are highly appreciated.

Best Regards,
Love Kumar

Hi Love,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

The workaround for this would be to make a duplicate URL variable, which would have a Variable ID, and use the SDK's performClickOnAssetWithKey method to do a custom click for your AdView. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.

Thank you for your quick response, Princess.

I do not have access to the URL. The user taps the ad and is taken out of the app. I want to be able to access the URL so that I can perform some custom action based on the URL.

Hi Love,

Thank you for responding back. In looking over a few possibilities , I think you could use contentURL to get the URL. Also here is the contentURL for AdMob, as this could help too. Also if you are looking to prevent the browser from opening, I believe you will have to set up the ad View differently. As it is now it should default to the browser.

Thank you for your response, William,

I'm not sure if this will work because the ads are custom-targetted and are being managed by the ad manager. I will have no way of knowing what the URL is going to be.

I would highly appreciate it if you could arrange one on one with your team.

Hi Love,

Thank you for responding back. As I looked more, I found to other articles for you to check out, here and here . Especially when looking at the second link, if you add the clickthrough to one of the variables and make a custom native placement in app. This should get you the desired result.

Thank you for your response.

I looked into the options and it seems like our campaign manager would have to create two different types of ads - native (for mobile apps) and image creative (for website).

I'm looking to make it work with image creative because that is what is being used for our website. Is there a way that I can intercept the click-through-URL from an image creative?

Hi Love,

Thank you for your response.

Can you clarify your question for image creative to your website? Do you have a website that you want to implement a click-through-URL? If yes, I'm afraid I can't give any insight on this as this is out of our scope. We can only help you integrating Mobile Ads SDK on application.

Hi,

We have a website and mobile apps for iOS and Android. The campaign manager sets up the image creative and it is used by both web and mobile apps. With the solution proposed by you here and here, the campaign manager will have to create two different creatives, one for web and one for mobile apps. We would like to avoid this because we have a lot of ads and doing so would be twice the work.

I would like to get the click-through URL of an image creative and handle it in a custom way.

Can you please arrange a one on one meeting where we can look into this more deeply?

Best Regards,

Hi Love,

Thank you for the response back. I understand that the answers might not be the best answer within regards to what you are looking to do. This is the best that we have to offer. With that in mind I will be bring this to my team to look at more. They might be able to offer feedback that will help to reduce the chance of having to do twice the work.

Also just to let you know we do not offer a one on one phone service. Once we get feedback we will be certain to pass it along to you.

Hi Love,

There is on way I know if to get this exact use case you want with one creative. Previously discussed on this thread are native custom ad formats and app events  as ways to pipe in that data,  but both solutions requires customizations on the creative that wouldn't be used on web.

Thanks,
Eric, Mobile Ads SDK Team
