Hi all,

Happy New Year. I hope you're all having a good start. I always get so
inspired this time of year. I love it. One of those is not losing
track of this group. So I got an email reminder of the Dine About Town
events going on from today through the end of the month. I

http://www.opentable.com/promo.aspx?m=4&pid=67&ref=1354&cmpid=em_01-14-10_rw&spMailingID=2845377&spUserID=MTc1MDkyNTUzMTIS1&spJobID=82304573&spReportId=ODIzMDQ1NzMS1

Would anyone be interested in doing one of these? 3-course prix-fixe
at some fantastic places for $35.

Just to throw out a starting date, what about Wed, Jan 27th? I'm
liking the looks of

* Chez Papa Resto at Mint Plaza - Union Square and quite posh, but
prix-fixe pricing
* cityhouse - Parc 55 Hotel - same

Oh man, I can see that I'll go long if I try to list all that look
great. Take a look and see if any stand out.

Take care,
Leslie

Hi Leslie-
Thanks for the email and for helping us not loose track of this group!

I would love to do a January dinner and the dine about town is a fabuluous idea! Any chance that anyone might have time this coming week instead of the last week of the month??

Hope to meet up with everyone soon!

Renee

Good Taste is not dead!
Leslie, thank you for the suggestion...I may not make it this month
because I'm MOVING in to my new Edwardian flat in San Francisco by the
1st and frankly money is scarce right now. HOWEVER, there is hope on
the horizon. I'll post the ad on Craigslist again in a little bit and
round up a couple new people. The great thing is that we have a
spacious kitchen and a nice dining room with a table that can be
expanded to seat up to 12 people! (And we're going to have a burgundy-
colored dining room eventually...how great is that?) So my idea is
that we can host a dinner at our house and have people over. Not only
will this save y'all money, it will give me a chance to improve my
cooking skills, and it's just more intimate and relaxed in a home
setting sometimes than in a restaurant. I have two new roommates who
will take part in the meal as well, and I know Adam is into the idea.
I'm only moving in February 1st though, so I don't want to plan it
immediately. I'm thinking EARLY MARCH.
In the meantime, please stay with me and let's try to do something
before then as well. The smoke will clear for me soon.
Happy New Year and all that jazz

Congratulations Tony. That's exciting and I know it was part of your original idea. I'm definitely interested, especially if you'll allow some sous chefs. I'm taking a cooking class in the city for fun this Thursday night. http://www.crushpadwine.com/event/sizzleandswirljan10 in case anyone is interested. I'm sure they have other dates. Anyway, my goal is to come out an excellent chef. (I have high expectations).

Renee, I for one can't do this week, but we could look into February too. I was just throwing out that one date. Or if folks want to go this week then I can catch up next month.

I hope all are well!

Huh, I may be interested, thanks for posting that link. I LIKE to cook
but should specify that I am very much a novice. I was really proud
when I made a plate of fancy nachos with all the trimmings a while
back, so that gives you an idea of the level I'm at. I'm not ready to
prepare a filet mignon au poivre just yet. But I learn quick and if
there's a recipe I can do it, plus my older roommate will help, he's
experienced, he recently made salmon with asparagus and bacon, plus
creme fraiche and berries. Sumptuous. But, in a word, YES, sous chefs
would be more than welcome! It's more fun to, I think, to make the
prep a team effort. I'm excited. Sorry I've been slow-moving lately,
it's just a lot is happening behind the scenes.

That Dine About Town thing looks amazing, although my head kinda
started to spin with how long the list was. (I've been to both Dosa
locations and recommend them strongly, even if you're paying full
retail, and I've wanted to try Le Colonial for a while. That's just
scratching the surface.)

Congratulations on the move, Tony. A dinner party, potluck, or
progressive dinner sounds like fun. I've got a bunch of easy but good
recipes collected from when my law-school friends and I had them; let
me know if you want me to dig it up and circulate it.

I've never been to one of the Crushpad cooking classes, but I did the
Community Crush winemaking thing with them a while ago and had a lot
of fun. Very cool place.

I'm open to doing something this week on or after Wednesday. Next week
works fine for me too.

Hope everyone's 2010 is on pace to break all records. Have fun!
