On Monday, November 2, Kresge will launch Fresh, Local & Equitable: Food as a Creative Platform for Neighborhood Revitalization supporting the development of food-oriented initiatives that contribute to economic revitalization and cultural expression. The initiative will begin by offering 20 planning grants of up to $75,000 for one year, and recipients will have the opportunity to apply for two-year implementation grants by the end of 2016. We aim to surface and accelerate the most promising initiatives that use food-oriented development as part of a comprehensive community revitalization strategy. We see healthy, local food systems as an important way to expand opportunity in America’s cities.
This opportunity is offered jointly with Kresge’s Arts & Culture Program, which seeks to build strong, healthy cities by promoting the integration of arts and culture into community revitalization and its Health Program, which works to enable communities to overcome economic, environmental and social barriers to health. We believe this initiative will recognize both the direct positive impacts of healthy, local food and the overarching role that food can play in building social cohesion, economic stability and cultural expression. We hope the initiative can help create a sense of place in communities where culinary ventures are integrated into community life.
Please look for the announcement of the initiative via www.kresge.org on Monday, November 2. The announcement will include the complete Request for Proposal that more fully describes the initiative and how to apply via Kresge’s online application process. A webinar will be held In December for potential grant seekers to get further information regarding the funding opportunity.
We want to make sure this opportunity is widely distributed and really appreciate your help in doing so. Please forgive any cross-postings.
Best Regards,
