I agree. Our generation (I am approaching 75) and the ones before and after us have really not contributed positively to the nation. We divided India in 1947, and then divided Pakistan in 1971. Subsequently, we continued to participate in its decay and destruction.I think, we should really sit back and allow those under 50 to take charge. They have a long way to go, and have stamina and strength with sufficient experience to plan and implement.Let us sit back and enjoy-or-suffer the seeds that we have sowed.--Ali AkhtarCell: +1 (571) 762-3883--

Javaid Hashmi was NOT a turncoat!
He left PML(N) after providing it excellent service. He had borne full brunt of Gen Musharraf's ire on behalf of his party, all alone, when other party stalwarts (including the closest to Nawaz Sharif, Nisar Ali Khan) had found it convenient to disappear from the scene!
He shouldn't have been cast out from PTI like a fly from milk. His presence had provided the party dignity & credence. And a conscience. An honorable old man, he would have gently faded away. With dignity, honour & in good grace. Not like this. A pity! For chivalry & gentlemanly considerations are epitomes of a civilized society.
Unfortunately it has become the norm now to equate political maturity with a Machiavellian approach.
May I say, with abject apologies if I sound blunt, that perhaps half of us are also not very relevant re most things now! Should we stop passing on lessons we learnt in life, to those younger?
By making sensational disclosures in his press conference after quitting PTI as its president, Javed Hashmi has ONLY cast aspersions on his own credentials.
It should not be a secret now that almost all the turncoats who joined the PTI in its hey days are most likely to quit if no cake piece comes their way. Political scientists tell us that political workers OFTEN go back to their parent parties. So, it is not peculiar to Pakistan.
Javed Hashmi must have known that many sensitive issues are shared at the top hierarchy of a political party in absolute trust and confidence. These can never and must never be disclosed in public while in party or out of it. If you do it, it is outrightly unethical and reflects badly on your own values and principles. Maligning the military and the judiciary may win him a few claps here and there but people are no longer that fool to believe all that Javed Hashmi said. He must have known that the military and the judiciary have a very high rating of popularity among the people of Pakistan. So is the case with Imran Khan. What is the popularity rating of Javed Hashmi? He is no longer relevant to the politics in Pakistan as much as he thinks he is. His days are over and he must accept the reality with grace and refrain from his untiring efforts to be what he used to be or what he wants to be. His political life cycle has reached the proverbial plateau.
With malice towards none.

Quite a realistic email from Ali Akhtar Sahib. QUOTE: They will not allow to let others share their "loot", Islam or communism is now not the answer. Do you think that Imran at 60+ can do it alone? The bread has to be snatched, if the poor are strong. There has to be a blitz bloody revolution, or none. Then let the youth take over on their terms. UNQUOTE
There has never been any political reconciliation in our history; but a new phenomenon of reconciliation is seen among the Corrupt Conglomerate to help each other through the system, abuse public interest and subdue the Military.
Atezaz Ahsan is an excellent intellectual of PPP, I tend to be in disarray with him on key issues; besides this, I recall his recent speech in the parliament, he rightly said that IK’s message is penetrating amongst the masses. IK, at 61, collected youth behind him, e.g., PTI fetched 500,000 votes in Karachi in 2013 elections; these youth voted on their new thinking.
IK/TUQ might look failed but they have raised true voice which is their moral victory.
IK has educated like Sir Syed educated which created Muslim State finally.
The corrupt ruling mafia in the said Muslim State has become very strong and would not relinquish power until complete economic collapse.
The Judiciary has dented the moral baric of the country by Patrimonial loyalty - a complete disaster.
If all positive initiatives fail and this condition perpetuates, this would lead to communistic bloody revolution supported by IK's Youth & the deprived masses from interior and the bold leader would emerge from our powerful Military.

M. A. Chishty

Perhaps my direction of thinking dose not coincide and support the prevailing thoughts; and truly it should not. We are all now thinking on a structured practical platform, and possibly correctly. But we all agree that the way things are happening in Pakistan, will not lead us to any social and material success. Hence a major change is required in the way we are looking at the problem; a new approach. Not one word did I write about Imran in my little note to which you have responded. I only stated that my generation, the generations before and after me have all failed, failed miserably in leading to progress. I have not elucidated the complex reasons for being so. My thoughts are clear that our way of thinking has proven to be futile, to say in the least offensive way, and we are a failed nation. The generations (ours, the ones before and the ones after too) responsible for it will not accept their failure and thus unable to improve, because they will not analyse their faults; believing that they have not committed any mistakes.Having said that, I have not lost hope. I have personally experienced the rise of defeated nations of Italy and Germany, where I lived, studied and worked in the 60s. Their youth simply dissociated themselves from the trauma. And worked hard to improve. Javed Hashmi belongs to my age group. We have seen the politics from the same angle and perspective. I was a member of students union in Karachi and made fiery speeches at the tomb of Quaid against Ayub's regime. But the better sense prevailed due to the sane advice of my late father. My ideologies aside, I needed to be a professional. I packed up and went away at a very young age if 21+ to come back at 29. And I am happy that I did not enter into politics. All the ideologically correct ones of my time have passed into oblivion without making any worthwhile contribution because the forces of status quo suffocated them. And they were not united to become stronger.I see the same thing happening. Forces of status quo, as always, are very strong. They are rich too. They have to be. And they will not, I repeat, they will not allow to let others share their "loot", Islam or communism is now not the answer. In the words of John Galbraith:"People of privilege will always seek their complete destruction rather than surrender any material part of their material advantage. Intellectual myopia, often called stupidity, is no doubt a reason. But the privileged also feel that their privileges, however they may seem to others, are as solemn, basic, God-given right. The sensitivity of the poor to injustice is a trivial thing compared with that of the rich."The haves, including the FEUDALS, and the rest will not allow any change. And Imran is too old for this purpose. He has ideas, progressive ideas too. But the poor are too meek and not hungry enough to go for any change. The government is not investing any worthwhile amount into the human development. And we are entrenched into our ancient dynastic ideology using religion as the opium of the masses.Happily blaming any new idea or movement as a Jewish/American/Hindu conspiracy, they are surviving. So without the complete destruction of the "people of privilege", the system cannot change and the wheels of progress will not start moving.Do you think that Imran at 60+ can do it alone?I don't!And his team of educated and motivated half Pakistanis are enlightened enough to do it? No.But probably their followers, whom I know, and who are mostly in their 40s and below can do it.And if they cannot, then the slow process of democracy can not. Because the democracy that we have, is actually not democracy. It is a "kleptocratic oligarchy" if not a plutocracy. They are happily the privileged people and suffering from intellectual myopia. They will not share the booty. The bread has to be snatched, if the poor are strong. There has to be a blitz bloody revolution, or none. You and I included, will not support it, and enjoy the decay. Because we are comfortable. The best peaceful change can still take place through "elected and empowered local self governance". Are the members of kleptocracy ready for it? No!Then let the youth take over on their terms.
