Schnitz Pie (Dried apple pie) - an Amish Recipe
Schnitz is dried apples.  For this recipe, you want dried apple slices.
You could make this without straining the apples, but then you'd just have a more traditional apple pie.
If you don't have an orange handy, one orange should yield 2 Tbsp zest and 4 2/3 Tbsp (4 Tbsp + 2 tsp).
Serves 8.
430 Calories, 65 grams net carbs, 10 grams fat per serving.

1 lb of Schnitz, sliced
juice and rind from one orange
2 cups sugar
2 Tbsp cinnamon
2 part pie crust

Cover Schnitz with water in a large pot.
Simmer until the apple slices soften, about 2 hours.
Zest the orange and squeeze out the juice.
Discard the orange pulp.
Add orange rind and juice to the Schnitz.
Add water, if necessary.
Boil until the Schnitz is mushy.
Put the mixture through a colander
Stir the sugar and cinnamon into the mixture.
Pour the filling into a pastry lined shell.
Dot the filling with butter.
Cover with a top crust or lattice strips.
Bake at 450° F for 10 minutes.
Reduce heat to 350° F and bake until the crust is browned, about 30 minutes.
