During the 2022-2023 season, Springfield Ballet instructors will visit Fremont Elementary, Pittman Elementary, Mark Twain Elementary, McGregor Elementary, Jeffries Elementary, Robberson Elementary and Weaver Elementary for their weekly dance instruction to children in grades kindergarten through third.
Each fall, a team of DanceChance staff and instructors visits partner schools within Seattle Public Schools to provide dance education presentations and movement instruction to all third-grade students. Within these visits, students who exhibit the unique characteristics to excel in classical ballet training are identified and invited to participate in a 9-week introductory session. Students who demonstrate progress, potential and interest continue on for a spring session and, subsequently, for the fourth-grade year. Upon graduation from the two-year program, select students are invited to continue their training in Pacific Northwest Ballet School Level III classes.
Through classical ballet instruction, DanceChance instructors aim to foster creativity, focus, self-regulation, a willingness to try new things, perseverance, curiosity and a strong sense of self. These traits serve those aspiring to careers in professional ballet and are also strong contributors to academic success. Research shows that arts education promotes life skills, such as the development of informed perception, problem-solving, confidence and discipline (Americans for the Arts, 2002). Studies have demonstrated that the physicality and expressiveness of dance alters brain function, strengthening memory capacity and neuronal connections (Harvard Mahoney Neuroscience Institute, 2019).
Following their graduation from PNB School, DanceChance alumni have gone on to dance professionally for the Pacific Northwest Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Oregon Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet and Singapore Ballet Theatre, among others.
The DanceChance Mentorship Program serves as a support system for DanceChance students and their families upon graduation from the program. Entering into the larger PNB School in Level III can be a challenging transition. Upper-level DanceChance graduates serve as mentors for younger DanceChance graduates, providing guidance and encouragement as students become increasingly committed to their ballet training. Through the Mentorship Program, alumni families develop strong ties and networks of support within the DanceChance community.
Dance Chance is an instructional program that brings ballet to first-grade classrooms in Philadelphia schools. The goal of this program is to empower children from diverse and primarily underserved communities to find new space for physical, emotional, and intellectual growth.
All first-grade students in our partner schools actively participate in weekly virtual dance classes in creative movement and ballet vocabulary, regardless of physical ability or previous dance experience. All students are invited to attend an open audition at School of Philadelphia Ballet. Students that show particular promise and dedication have an opportunity for a full scholarship, allowing us to forge a meaningful and sustained impact on future generations of potential professional dancers.
Philadelphia Ballet is a tax exempt nonprofit and our tax identification number is 23-1629970. In 2023, Chicago Dancemakers Forum was selected by DanceWorks Chicago to carry on the 15-year legacy of DanceChance, a one-hour event designed to offer opportunities for local dancemakers to share their work in a low-stakes environment and to engage in dialogue about the creative process with peers and dance enthusiasts. Inspired by the concept of open-mic night, DanceChance is held once a month and features 3 dancemakers chosen by chance, each of whom has up to a 10-minute time slot to share their work (can be choreographed, improvised, or communal in nature). To round out the hour, the last segment is a moderated conversation with the participating dancemakers to discuss their work/process. At the end of each DanceChance, the next trio of participants is chosen by random draw from names submitted by dancemakers in attendance who choose to put their name in the hat. For example, to have an opportunity to participate in the July DanceChance, dancemakers would need to be in attendance at the June DanceChance. Participating dancemakers will each receive $100 and video documentation of their sharing. Chicago Dancemakers Forum credits and thanks DanceWorks Chicago for the design and description of this program, as well as Ruth Page Center for the Arts and Lou Conte Dance Studio who served as in-kind venue partners throughout the years.
Second Chance Dance isn't your typical dance studio. It caters specifically to adults who may have harbored a lifelong love for dance but never pursued it, or perhaps danced in their youth and are yearning to return. The studio provides a safe space for individuals to overcome self-doubt and embrace the joy of movement, regardless of experience level.
Led by seasoned and passionate instructors, the studio provides a wide range of dance styles, catering to diverse interests and skill levels. Whether you're drawn to the elegance of ballet, the expressiveness of modern dance, the energy of jazz, or the rhythmic joy of tap, Second Chance Dance has a class to ignite your inner dancer.
Genuinely one of my favorite experiences. I have been looking for a dance class that caters SPECIFICALLY to adult learners with ZERO experience & THIS IS IT. As someone who takes a while to learn new things, I felt so encouraged not only from my teachers, but the environment itself to be vulnerable and open to this new experience. While we do learn the technical and historical stuff, which is incredibly helpful for someone like me who likes to know the, "WHY/HOW"...the physical instruction itself is broken down into layman's terms as to not overwhelm, but to truly TEACH. Whether you're a true beginner like me or someone who just wants to polish what they already know, SECOND CHANCE DANCE is the place for you. 10/10 experience.
I have been a martial artist for over two decades. One of the most beneficial things that I have done was to include dance in my training regiment. I became a member of Second Chance Dance Studios, and it has improved my footwork and spatial awareness. The Second Chance Dance will enhance your training to the next level.
SCD is the perfect place for adults if you're looking to bring dance back into your life or if you're a beginner looking to try something new! Alyssa is so supportive and patient, but she pushes and challenges you to grow as well. She offers a fantastic array of classes, and the dancers there readily welcome you into the SCD family. It's an amazing and flexible environment for working adults who love dance. As a 40-yr old, I thought my time dancing had passed and I'm so grateful to be back at it!
This annual event is a hit with attendees. This year we will be in a gorgeous new space, The Grandview at Millcreek Common, that will allow us to increase our capacity. And we'll have six new chefs for you to enjoy amazing dishes using our rescued food.
We'll have small bites from our six chefs for you to enjoy along with wine and beer as well as wellness shots and juices from our partner Vive Juicery. We'll have a DJ to pump up the music while you dance the night away and there will be a silent auction with sustainable items like outdoor adventures and food items for you to bid on. Get your groove on and join us!
DanceWorks Chicago is excited to partner with the Lou Conte Dance Studio on Dance Chance, a one-hour event designed to offer opportunities for choreographers to show their work informally, create a forum for dialogue among artists, and build audience for dance. Inspired by the concept of open-mic night, Dance Chance is held once a month and features 3 choreographers chosen by chance, each of whom has a 15-minute time slot to share their work. To round out the hour, the final 15-minute segment is a moderated meet-the-artist session providing an opportunity for choreographers to discuss their work and process as well as time for the audience to ask questions. At the end of each Dance Chance, the next trio of participants is chosen from names submitted by choreographers in attendance.
DanceWorks Chicago is inspired to continue to experiment with this program to encourage creativity and a sense of adventure on the part of artists and audience and to bring communities together to learn more about each other.
A choreographic showcase of community artists, DanceChance NWA fosters high quality dance-making in the region via mentorship, community conversations, and performance visibility. Each event hands the stage to local dancemakers to share their newest works and works-in-progress.
Created in 2021 by dance artist Karen Castleman, and inspired by a similar initiative in Chicago, DanceChance NWA is a bi-monthly choreographic showcase grounded in community building between artists, students, audiences, and friends. Three local choreographers are randomly selected for each DanceChance. DanceChance NWA is a platform providing an opportunity for local and emerging choreographers to present new work, with very few barriers to engagement. DanceChance NWA encourages participation through conversation crossing unseen lines between audience members, choreographers, and dancers.
Our goal is to help instill confidence, self esteem, and life skills through dance to all participants. Our organization will provide scholarships and costumes for underprivileged children to give them an amazing experience. The organization will train, costume, and provide dancers opportunities to share the art of dance locally and globally. Among the things we will offer include but are not limited to:
