The size of that program is enormous. With the expected size it is going to be sold at now I am NOT going to purchase it. I have about 150GB left on my system. However, if the program can be installed on an external drive and run without any difficulties from there, then this could solve the problem.
Hi this question is for Scott. Can you point me to a step by step of how to take all my SSD and EzDrummer kits from my internal main system drive to a external for a Mac? I would also need to know how to redirect both SSD3 & EzDrummer to source the kits on the external instead of the internal. For my EzDrummer kits can I simply copy them from the Application Support Folder to an external drive or do I need to redownload them all?
Thanks to Olof I think I understand, at last. But just to be sure, I can have everything included in Superior Drummer 3 and also Orchestral Percussion on an external drive? Nothing on the computer? That would be great!
I have SD3 installed on a PC /Windows (win 7) computer at my personal studio BUT want to copy it to an external hard drive for a Mac (High Sierra 10.13) at the studio that I work at. How do I do that? Do not want to store it on the Mac studio machine.

Hi, new user here. Same problem for me. Used the Toontrack Product Manager and it did not allow me to chose where to install. Just put everything on C which is now full. How can I change the install directory for EZ drummer and the libraries?
Hello,
I use the Toontrack Product Manager for all my products.
I would like to port all Toontrack products to an external medium.
Do I have to reinstall the software?
How can I export the existing files?
I'm thinking about upgrading my EZDrummer AU plugin to SuperiorDrummer. I was wondering if there was anything within Logic that I would need to do in order to install it on my external USB hard drive, and make sure logic will have access to it.
I don't even know if SuperiorDrummer will allow me to do this, or to somehow install the component in the usual directory and put the related data/sound files on my external. But, as I look into that, I was wondering if someone could give me general advice about my possible options from the logic side of things.
I have a small HD (160Gigs) considering standards and a s#!+ loads of plugins and virtual instruments, samples etc. so I thought of buying a 1 terabyte big external HD and using it to install ALL of my plugins there and have my internal HD running just Logic and some Mac apps.
Kind of confused why you want plug-on an external device. They are tiny, many have dependencies to other parts that need to be installed and I'm not even sure aliases work in case you drop those into the /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/
plugins and instruments should stay on your system drive. I don't think you're gonna run out of room, unless you own like 500 plugins. if any of the instruments are samplers, the sample libraries should go on the new dedicated external HD, with an alias in the instruments' original directory pointing to the samples' new location.
You will need to tweak the settings of your sampler instrument to keep the disk streaming of large samples to a minimum - performance is not as good on samples disk streaming from FW hard drives as it is from say, an internal SATA drive.
I meant to keep my Logic files all together with installation on internal drive. All the plugins, everything. But I wanted to use external one for third party. look, I have Superior Drummer 2.0 (full installation around 36 GB), I also use SD2 expansion Metal Foundry (Full installation around 36 GB as well) than I have some KONTAKT libraries (Full band, pianos, etc), I have a lot of where this came from but I'll stop here because just this is already almost 100 GB !
So I didn't have enough money to get myself bigger internal drive when my last went broken but now I'm even thinking should I buy maybe INTERNAL 1 TB drive rather than external (if this is compatible with my Mac).
And you see...I would rather want to install everything on a separated drive and pull it out of it when I need. Now maybe there is a lot of downsides of this and maybe I can have latency or bugging issues...I'm not sure.
What you want to do is perfectly fine, as long as you know that the .component file (the plug-in itself) stays in the components folder in your system drive. I have a laptop, and have a couple of third party instruments with big sound libraries (Trilian, BFD2, Kontakt). I keep those sounds in an external firewire 800 drive.
You mention .component file that should stay in the main system. What would be an example of thie .component file, for instance in Kontact plug ins? Just asking to make sure I keep the right file on the main system.
.component in the file name. Anyway, unless you know what you are doing, use the installer; a good installer would prompt for installing sample content in an alternate location. If not you need to do searches on this forum about aliases and how to move a folder to another location and use an alias instead.
REDLOGIC....Yes I understand that. I would never move a .component file. I know it is a file that makes actual app being called up in Logic. I just need to figure out how to set my paths from Logic to external HD samples.
And do you think since I have a LOT of space with 1 TB that I can use some space being left after my libraries and samples (and I believe that there is going TO BE space) for some freshly bought Installation DVD backups ?
There's no such thing as an Apple HD. Apple doesn't make HDs. I suspect the Apple mouse was there just to entice Apple users to believe that that particular drive will work great with a Mac - but really a drive is a drive is a drive, and once you format it for Mac OS X it will perform great on any computer running Mac OS X.
No, it's a OWC drive, but yes it looks a bit like an apple product (it also comes pre-formatted for Mac OS...not that that makes it better than others...). Again, it's working fine for my samples, but look around for other options. And yes, its specs help its performance (7200 RPM, FW800, eSATA...etc)
Well when I saw APOGEE DUET first time I knew that's the same bullshit like this (I mean putting a mouse right next to it and making slick hardware so that people can think it goes better with MACs).
RDD - Rock is a 15GB library once installed, but temporarily requires 50GB free space on your startup disk (even if you are installing it on an external drive) for the installation process.
I used to be able to handle huge tasks but it seems since I've got my Fireface 802 I've had these crackling issues that seem to be getting worse. It can barely handle the easiest of projects. I'm not using anything different than I always have. I am mostly just using Spectrasoncs Omnisphere, Kontakt, and superior drummer 3 and of course audio.
Childrenof9, I am using firewire with my 802. Are you using the firewire or USB? Or is it the use audio that still drives the 802 even though it's plugged in through firewire? That's where I get confused a little bit. So, when you say reinstall the whole thing what are you referring to? A clean OSX install? Or reinstalling the 802? If it's an OSX issue is re-installing going to help? You would think there is a fix somewhere for this? My older Fireface 800 was flawless until the power supply had a complete meltdown. I thought I was upgrading but it's been a complete frustrating nightmare with the 802. I should have just stuck with another 800 that actually worked.
My issues are that when I play an Ableton session with a lot of plugins but not over 40% the soundcard gets out of sync and start glitching and fooling around. When I record audio the audio is not in time.
Hey Childrenof9,
I've managed to correct the issue. With a lot of patience and perseverance. So, I did do a clean install of Mac Sierra. I haven't updated to High Sierra yet so I'll update when I do that. So, with a clean install I am backing up with time machine after every little thing I do. I re-installed Fireface 802 with latest drivers. That whole ordeal gets a little confusing because you have to install both the firewire and usb drivers and the flash update and you must have it connected via usb for the flash update. I just connected it both firewire and usb while doing the install and all seems to have worked fine. I then installed Logic Pro X. Installing the sound library on an exterior drive. I installed Omnishpere and Trillian both the same way with the sound library (STEAM) on exterior hard drive. So far, I've installed NI Komplete Kontrol and Battery and no issues. I am installing Guitar Rig 5 right now. I'm just slowing installing and making backups with Time Machine each step of the way. I believe the original issue was caused by my ignorance with the sound library's. Now I have a good understanding of how all that works. Before I had my plugins and libraries sort of everywhere and not consistent. I think I may have even had duplicate libraries both on the main drive and exterior drive causing conflicts. Again, I didn't know what I was doing. lol There are a lot of variables though so it's hard to say what was happening. I also had other audio interface drivers on my mac from my focusrite Saphire and my Motu. I had hundreds of plugins all over the place which is why I decided to do a clean install. I don't use and probably never will use most of them. I do like to use NI Kontakt and reactor and have thoughts that those could be disruptive with Logic. I will update when I install those too. I am still struggling with serious latency issues though if you have any thoughts on that.
