Fifty Shades of Grey is a 2011 erotic romance novel by British author E. L. James.[1] It became the first instalment in the Fifty Shades novel series that follows the deepening relationship between a college graduate, Anastasia Steele, and a young business magnate, Christian Grey. It contains explicitly erotic scenes featuring elements of sexual practices involving BDSM (bondage/discipline, dominance/submission, and sadism/masochism). Originally self-published as an ebook and print-on-demand in June 2011, the publishing rights to the novel were acquired by Vintage Books in March 2012.
The phenomenon of self-publishing is often linked to online book production methods, which allow authors to produce an ebook with a few strokes of the keyboard, making their work available to a global audience. However, there is a much richer history of self-publishing that goes further back than its digital counterpart.
In the past 10 plus years, self-publishing has kept growing as an industry potentially due to ebook adoption and online publishing companies, which indicates that it certainly has the possibility to have a permanent place in the publishing ecosystem.
Rowberry documents the first decade of the Kindle with case studies of Kindle Popular Highlights, an account of the digitization of books published after 1922, and a discussion of how Amazon's patent filings reflect a shift in priorities. Rowberry argues that while it was initially convenient for the book trade to outsource ebook development to Amazon, doing so has had adverse consequences for publishers in the mid- and long term, limiting opportunities for developing an inclusive and forward-thinking digital platform. While it has forced publishers to embrace digital forms, the Kindle has also empowered some previously marginalized readerships. Although it is still too early to judge the long-term impact of ebooks compared with that of the older technologies of clay tablets, the printing press, and offset printing, the shockwaves of the Kindle continue to shape publishing.

With most of the tools already mentioned under this question, only pdf files made out of text files (and not of scanned/photocopied text saved as image) can be treated so that colors of page and fonts (or at least of page, as expected by the OP) are changed. In case the available text is a pdf formed of images (e.g. paper that was scanned) the pages will in many cases show paper-like black-on-white text (even if images are extracted and converted to an ebook format as said here). There, the only possible color change of image-based pdf-s is inverting colors with viewers that have that option: Evince, Qoppa-PDFStudioViewer), xpdf (with the -rv argument, see here), mupdf (here). There are exceptions, though, viewers that can do more than just inverting colors or changing only the background:
Install pdf-tools from melpa and enable pdf-view-midnight-minor-mode in pdf-view-mode. The default color for midnight mode is light grey on dark blue but this can be changed by configuring pdf-view-midnight-colors, eg.
As of July 2, sales stood at 9.8 million paperbacks and 9.6 million ebooks for a total of 19.4 million copies sold. Add in another 12 million books sold abroad, and worldwide sales top 31 million copies since Vintage published the three-book series in March.
The gold standard for modern e-readers from companies like Amazon, Kobo and Barnes and Noble is 16 levels of grayscale for their black and white e-paper display screens made by E INK. This means there are 16 different levels of grey, including black and white text. You will notice the shades of grey when looking at pictures, such as those found on PDF files or browsing the internet with the experimental browser. This year, several smaller brands such as Onyx Boox, Meebook, iReader and Hanvon have managed to increase the grayscale with dithering enhancements on a software level from 16 levels to 256 levels.
There is no magical e-paper technology that has a higher level of grayscale. They use simulation to do it via dithering algorithms on a pure software level. This is how they can bypass the 16 levels of grayscale and instead use 256 levels. Instead of having 256 levels of grayscale on specific applications, such as the PDF rendering engine or the ebook reading app, all these companies managed to make it system-wide. Every navigation entry, text, or image will look sharper without fuzziness or antialiasing issues. On a basic level 256, it smooths over any pixelated sections caused by gradient scaling.
Here are all of the brands and products that support the 256 levels of grayscale. Recent iReader e-readers such as the Neo, Neo Pro, Ocean 2 and Smart 4 all support it. iReader told me they made it happen in two ways: the SOC and software algorithms. Meebook has also introduced it via a software update. It applies to the Meebook P10 Pro, Mebook P10 Pro Edition and the M6. These two companies have software switches in the quick settings menu that allow you to turn on or off the expanded grayscale levels. Hanvon has 256 levels of grayscale on their N10 Mini and N10 Max devices; they said this was possible with their intelligent algorithms.

However, there are many other gray tones and shades of gray you can create by using different color mixtures. So, this article will show you how to make grey that you can use to add wonderful context in your paintings!
You can also create your own black (dark mixture) to mix with white. In the first line of the color chart below, Ultramarine Blue is mixed with Cadmium Orange to create a dark color combination. This is then mixed with white to create a cool grey.
Then the third line in the color chart above, shows Ultramarine Blue mixed with Burnt Umber. This color combination creates a dark brown/ black. The resulting color when mixed with white is a warmer grey that almost has a hint of purple.
Next color option (on the second line of the chart above) is to mix burnt umber with ultramarine blue and use this to create a darker grey. This color combination will not be nearly as brownish as when mixing pure burnt umber with grey. On the contrary, it will be turn into a dark bluish grey.
Now that you know how to make grey colours that are darker in tone, the next most important thing is to learn how to mix a light grey. As might be obvious, the easiest way to make a light gray color, is to add white to your gray mixture. However, you can also add Cadmium Lemon Yellow to grey to lighten it.
Lord Henry had not yet come in. He was always late on principle, his principlebeing that punctuality is the thief of time. So the lad was looking rathersulky, as with listless fingers he turned over the pages of an elaboratelyillustrated edition of Manon Lescaut that he had found in one of thebook-cases. The formal monotonous ticking of the Louis Quatorze clock annoyedhim. Once or twice he thought of going away.
As the dawn was just breaking, he found himself close to Covent Garden. Thedarkness lifted, and, flushed with faint fires, the sky hollowed itself into aperfect pearl. Huge carts filled with nodding lilies rumbled slowly down thepolished empty street. The air was heavy with the perfume of the flowers, andtheir beauty seemed to bring him an anodyne for his pain. He followed into themarket and watched the men unloading their waggons. A white-smocked carteroffered him some cherries. He thanked him, wondered why he refused to acceptany money for them, and began to eat them listlessly. They had been plucked atmidnight, and the coldness of the moon had entered into them. A long line ofboys carrying crates of striped tulips, and of yellow and red roses, defiled infront of him, threading their way through the huge, jade-green piles ofvegetables. Under the portico, with its grey, sun-bleached pillars, loitered atroop of draggled bareheaded girls, waiting for the auction to be over. Otherscrowded round the swinging doors of the coffee-house in the piazza. The heavycart-horses slipped and stamped upon the rough stones, shaking their bells andtrappings. Some of the drivers were lying asleep on a pile of sacks.Iris-necked and pink-footed, the pigeons ran about picking up seeds.
