International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) seeks to hire Research Associate who assists the spring bread wheat breeder to all duties and responsibilities needed to carry out the spring bread wheat breeding program at Kulumsa and Debre Zeit stations of Ethiopia.
The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) is an international autonomous, non-profit, research organization temporarily based in Beirut, Lebanon supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). ICARDA is committed to the improvement of livelihoods of the resource-poor in dry areas by enhancing food security and alleviating poverty through agricultural research, and the equitable use of natural resources. Responsibilities:
•    Undertaking field operation of all spring bread wheat trails at Kulumsa and Debre Zeit stations in Ethiopia;
•    Land preparation, sowing, harvesting, threshing, and weed control of improvement experiments;
•    Records rusts, septoria and other disease notes;
•    Collecting, managing and summarizing data;
•    Supervising daily workers;
•    Performing any other job assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements:
Education:
•    M.Sc in plant pathology or plant breeding and considerable demonstrated ability in field & laboratory research or a relevant first degree plus a relevant post graduate qualification
Experience:
•    Five years of experience in related fields.
•    Experience in laboratory techniques
Skills:
•    Ability to work in a team.
•    Computer data entry and analysis skills (MS Office, Windows, etc.).
•    Fluency in English and Amharic.
•    Driving license.
•    Ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams in developing country environments.
Position level: 3A.
Duty Station: Kulumsa, Ethiopia
Minimum Base salary:
•    Birr 22,045 per month (Negotiable, depending on experience, skill and salary history of the candidate)
