National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) Marketing and Communication Contract
Rationale: NMEA has lost 20% of its members since 2008, and is currently losing 5% a year. The NMEA Executive Committee met in January 2012 and decided to be proactive in hopes of preventing this downward turn from becoming a trend. We are making a strategic investment of $20,000 from the capital reserve account to procure a two-year contract with a communications consultant to improve our capacity to recruit and retain members. The goal is to add 200 members in two years to balance this investment.
Proposed 2-Year Contract
Reason for position: Improve NMEA membership recruitment and retention by improving the NMEA brand and better communicating messages across platforms with members and the public.

§ Incorporate efforts of outreach and membership-related committees, specifically: Expanding Audiences, Grants/Funding, Membership, Outreach, and others into developing an overall communication strategy.
