Master Naturalist program to offer classes on habitats, wildlife
The 2012 Mississippi Master Naturalist Program will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays, from April 26 to June 14, at the Mississippi State University Coastal Research and Extension Center in Biloxi. Class enrollment is limited, and pre-registration is required.
The course fee is $100, which includes program costs and educational materials. Continuing education units and continuing forestry education credits have been approved and will be awarded upon completion of course work.
Natural resource professionals, university professors and extension agents will conduct the classes and field trips as participants study native plants, habitats, insects, watershed management, wildlife, forestry, fisheries, soils and birds.
During the course, Master Naturalist candidates receive 40 hours of training in natural-resource and wildlife management. They also must complete 40 hours of volunteer service to meet certification requirements.
To register, contact Chris Boyd, an assistant extension professor who works with Mississippi State University and the Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium, at (228) 546-1025 or cb...@ext.msstate.edu. Applications and course fees must be received by April 15.
