In the world of translation and localization, the name 'Trados' is a synonym for reliability and efficiency to all professionals active in this field. Agencies and freelancers alike, throughout the world, use Trados products to enhance their productivity and improve their quality irrespective of language expertise or fields of specialization.
ORCO has been using Trados products for many years with great success. The experience gained on numerous and diverse projects over the years has led us to establish a business relationship with Trados, later with SDL, and now with RWS, thereby allowing for the dissemination of Trados technology through the distribution and local support of a wide range of software products and solutions in Greece, Cyprus, and Israel.
In 2020 the acquisition of SDL by RWS was a transformational event for both companies. The enlarged group is a leading language services and software company, enabling customers to benefit from its increased scale, an expanded geographic footprint and innovative technologies that deliver world-class translation and localization services.
With GroupShare, teams work via a single platform containing centralized translation memories, terminology, and projects. Rather than organizing files, chasing progress updates, and creating progress reports, they just need to ensure everything is accessible centrally. GroupShare does the hard work of monitoring progress and provides instant access to progress completion statistics. The effort required to set up, monitor, and manage people and resources is dramatically reduced when teams can self-manage. The result is greater control to deliver quality translations faster. With GroupShare, translators using Trados Studio connect to server-based TMs to leverage translations in real time. GroupShare is entirely integrated with Trados Studio and MultiTerm and transforms the way project managers, translators, terminologists, and reviewers work on a centralized web-based platform. The different components (TM/MT/PJ) can work together or separately.

Terminology management allows for accurate and effective content translation by organizing terms with a distinct set of usage rules; this ensures that the correct term is used within a translation. By successfully managing your corporate terminology, not only are you protecting your organization's global brand, but you are also creating a foundation for consistent communication and knowledge sharing throughout your organization. When all content creators and translators use the right terms, organizations can remarkably improve brand consistency and content quality.

ORCO offers technical consulting services in the field of translation and software localization. Today, with the advent of machine translation and computer-aided translation tools, the translation of documents is immensely facilitated, but the use of these technologies is not such a simple and straightforward task. The creation, management and organization of a small, medium or large translation infrastructure needs to be carefully considered and planned in order to achieve high productivity and meet all quality requirements.
SDL Trados Studio from the British company SDL International is one of the most well-knownautomatic translation systems. The first version of the program was developed by the Germancompany Trados GmbH, which SDL International bought in 2005. At the heart of theprogram is a special database - a translation memory containing texts from the source andtarget languages. Today there are several versions of SDL Trados Studio 2021 on the market. The most popular ones are listed below:
The first two versions - SDL Trados Studio Starter and SDL Trados Studio Freelance - areintended for freelancers and small companies with small translation volumes or a limitedset of languages. Here are the main differences between the two versions:
In both editions - SDL Trados Studio Starter and SDL Trados Studio Freelance - there is alimit to the number of languages supported per project. In SDL Trados Studio Freelance, youcan use up to 3 target languages within one project, while SDL Trados Studio Starter supportsonly one target language. At the same time, you can create any number of projects in botheditions.
Language Support
You choose your preferred languages when installing SDL Trados Studio on your computer. Tochange any of the languages later, you need to reinstall the application.
Both versions do not support creating AutoSuggest dictionaries, although you can use existingdictionaries without any restrictions. If necessary, you can purchase a separate license tocreate AutoSuggest dictionaries, but only for use with SDL Trados Studio Freelance.
The main difference between SDL Trados Studio Professional and the above versions is theabsence of language restrictions and many additional tools you can use to work withtranslations and terminology, edit your content, and manage your projects.
A separate place is occupied by SDL Trados GroupShare, a solution designed for collaborativework on translation projects. Using this solution, translators and project managers can easilyand securely share project files, terminology and translation databases in real time. To workin an SDL Trados GroupShare system environment, you can use the SDL Trados Workgroup version.
For most self-employed translators, SDL Trados Studio Freelance is the best choice because itis more affordable and has all the necessary functionality to perform common translation tasks.SDL Trados Studio Starter can suit those who need to translate small text files occasionally. At the same time, the professional version is intended for small and large companies for whichmanaging translation projects is also important.
Using SDL Trados Studio Freelance on two computers
If you intend to work with translations on two computers at once, we recommend that youpurchase the Freelance Plus version of SDL Trados Studio. This version comes with anadditional license which allows you to activate the program on a second computer.

Like I was saying, many freelance translators are seldom seen in person. Therefore, we might not be known very well, or our clients may only know us by our country, the language pairs we work in and the types of text we translate (for example, Wei, Singapore, Chinese to English, transcreation/marketing/business/legal/finance/healthcare).
After briefly working as a PM/translator at a game localization firm in The Netherlands, he moved to Singapore in 2007, where he started his own translation company. At first, he focused mostly on games (from console games to casual games for mobile), but now he does a lot of translations for other types of content as well, ranging from IT and software to tourism and electronics. Basically, if it is not too specialized, he is your man.
Obviously, given the length of his time in this industry and his experience as a user of CAT tools both as a Project Manager and as a translator, Thorvald has his own preferences and habits when it comes to his choice of tools and software.
Phyllis translates from Simplified and Traditional Chinese to Simplified and Traditional English. She is a game localisation mercenary first and foremost, a comic converter second, and a toe-dipper into literary translation.
This is a tough one, since it really depends on the job at hand and which client it is. Every client will have their own preferences for tools, and sometimes you just have to work with whichever tool they have if you do not have your own.
For ease of mobility, I would pick the cloud-based and internet-dependent Memsource. This works very well for small to medium projects and volumes. Also, a trusty dictionary. And the Internet. And my two 24-inch computer screens set up so that I have one screen for translation and one screen for references, the online dictionary, related browser tabs, and so on.
