I got rid of Cortana for security reasons but I just click "all apps" scroll down to "windows accessories" scroll down to "snipping tool". I would drag it to the task bar for future 1 click access. I was surprised by how much I use it.

Don't know exactly what you mean, because I don't use any windows snipping tool.I use "Screenshot 3.36.0" (install package gnome-screenshot). Which I have bound to the "print-screen"-button.Which this you can copy the screen (or window) to the clipboard or save to file.

I just updated to Catalina but not the Snip Tool does not work. I open it to capture a section of my document/screen and when I hit this my whole screen disappears and it goes to a blank desktop page. Why is it doing this and how can I get it to go back to actually snipping a piece of document that I want? Thanks

I was working on a few documents which had images picked up by Snip Tool without any file format, in essence, the images were snipped using Snipping Tool and pasted directly in InDesign without saving the image in JPG or PNG format through Snipping Tool, before hand.

Thank you for replying to the thread. I agree that PDF/X1: 2001 format is archaic however, it is one of the mandatory requirements from the printer's side. When I export the document to such a format, the pasted images come in a blue highlight instead of their original form.

Thank you for replying to the thread and coming up with such an amazing solution. I had tried this script earlier and it works wonders, given it was developed by Mr. Kahrel (a known name in InDesign community). Only issue I have been facing with this is that it removes linking for embedded images as well. Also, when I relink the pasted images, it changes the size of the pasted images. It adds a bit of blank frame at the end of pasted images. Hence, I have not been able to figure out the issue with this. Other than that, the script is amazing.

That's one of many reasons why you should always PLACE (File > Place) images instead of pasting. LINKED placed images store that information so when an image is replaced, it can come in at the same scaling and position.

Thank you for sharing the first version of the script. It just relinks the pasted images and leaves the already embedded, intact. However, it is still giving me trouble with Fitting Options for the Pasted Images. It results in "None" under the Fitting Options and leads to negative "Bottom" in Crop Amount.

Not sure on the script... You could export to PDF, then open the PDF into Photoshop and select the second option to open/extract the images from the PDF (not the first option to rasterize the entire PDF), manually save the images and then place them into InDesign.

Yet another option to consider would be to create a PDF/X4 or another PDF preset similar to the required end result that does not error, then use Acrobat Pro to "recondition" the PDF to meet the required PDF/X1 compliance (which is obviously best performed when creating the original PDF, if you were not having an error).

Thank you. Once I am force to move into the crapware called Windows 11, I will know that can go back to the normal tool. The Windows 10 Snip and Sketch crashes often and I am assuming it will be the same in Windows 11 crapware. MS does not focus on fixing things. They focus on breaking things.

I completely disagree. The entire trend for Microsoft to make everything look like Apple is a mistake. The dropdown menus are better than the ribbons. This is just another example of making something MUCH less useful. And if people like you find it useful, why NOT provide people like me the option for the other user interface?

I would like for the Lightburn program developers to watch the video in reference to the scissors (snip tool) detailed in video from the 5:40 to 10:30 minute mark. This is by far the best variation of a snip tool that I have seen. I know the programming of the snip tool is already underway, but you might be able to include the different scissor modes in the Lightburn software.

Putting these features in LightBurn would be the the best addition ever, Icing on an already delicious cake.
It is by far the most complete and intuitive snip / node editing tool I have seen.
So when can we expect the upgrade?

Maybe it's gone in Windows 10, but in Win7 the OS offers a utility called "Snipping Tool" that allows you to select an area of the screen, take a screenshot, draw on it if desired, and then save it as a file or copy it to the clipboard for pasting into other programs. I use it all the time. I find that I can paste from it into Evernote as usual.

@Mason111, welcome to the forums. What version of Windows and what version of the Evernote program are you using? When did this quit working? If it was just very recently, try closing Evernote completely (File menu > Exit; the red X box only closes the interface) and then restarting it. Or close it from the Task Manager. That should clear any faults hanging around in memory, and hopefully restore the function. If not, perhaps a reboot of the computer.

Found it in Windows 10, Shift+Win+S. Honestly never really looked for it as I mostly use my EN Screen Capture hot key, with and without Ctrl+. Good thing about this learning is Shift+Win+S can be used to screen cap some of the EN menus which block EN hot key usage. Another tool in the pack.

In truth I don't often clip (partial) screen captures to Evernote, for whatever reason. But I do use the Snipping Tool for other purposes. It's pretty hand in its way. It was introduced in Vista, which I skipped, and I remember being happy to discover it when it first appeared.

@Dave-in-Decatur I am using Windows 10 Home and the I'm using evernote basic out of my web browser. The problem started just after Evernote made their latest update I believe. Have tried closing out of the web browser many times and even restarting my computer. I downloaded the app/program for Windows and I don't have a problem pasting from the snipping tool there, but the app lack capabilities such as expanding the note across the entire screen so that it can be used on half of the screen effectively, etc.

OK, thanks. This is actually the forum for the Windows desktop program, so that's what I was assuming. Which version of Evernote for the Web are you using (and in what browser? I just tested, using the Evernote Web client beta with Opera as the browser, and a clip from the Snipping Tool pasted just fine. But then I went back to the older version of Evernote, and it was just as you said: pasting from the S.T. failed, either with Ctrl+V or right-click and Paste. Pasting a different image from the Web succeeded though.

If you're using the older version of Evernote Web, your initial will be in the lower left of the page. Click that to get the account menu, and choose "Switch to the New Evernote Web." There are a lot of differences between the two in appearance and in functionality, so it'll take a minute to get used to; and of course you can always go back to the older version. If you're already using the Web beta, your initial and account menu will be in the top left--and in that case, I'm stumped.

The reason: I cannot find a way to easily snip and paste into Evernote from other applications....like Teams, or PDFs, or powerpoint. I use this all the time.....Evernote now seems focused on snipping from the Browser. There is a guide online that says "use the Evernote to cut and paste screen shots" but it doesn't seem to work....the cursor is supposed to change shape or something.....

Hi Im clearly a novice user as you can tell from my topic title!
I am busy working on a model atm and I have a part of the model that I want to cut so that it is no longer part of the model, but how to do it in such a way that it will not influence the part of the model that remains after the cut has been done? When I first started using SU I was sure there was a cutting tool on one of the toolbars (the icon looked very similar to a little scalpal or exacto knife?!!)
I saw in a tutorial how one could use this tool to make cuts of a selected area and then have one part remain and the other part erased. Why cant I find it anymore or am I confused? is this a featue only available in Layout?

Is there a snip tool in Easel pro?
Trying to make knobs for my hold downs by cutting a circle for the wood then cutting circles for finger grips, tried doing the combine function but it adds the finger circle rather than subtracting the part of the circle outside of the knob.

I'm writing a Python program that is basically the Snipping Tool. I'd like to be able to run my program, select the area for my screenshot using my mouse to click and drag, and then have the program save this image.
