We just released a new beta version of Golf Pad for Android! Version 15.8 adds club entry on Samsung smartwatches. You can now choose the club right on the watch when you track a shot. Turn on or off club tracking in Golf Pad settings / Smartwatch sync. This feature has been requested by many users and we are really excited to add it to Golf Pad!

IMPORTANT: please be sure to download the latest version of Golf Pad watch app in Galaxy Store (on your phone) - you should have version 5.3.3 or later.

Email sup...@golfpadgps.com if you notice any issues or have a question or a comment. We are looking forward to hear from you!

As always, big thanks for all your help with testing the pre-release version - we truly appreciate it! Stay healthy and safe during the difficult times!

Golf Pad team.

Hi,this is excellent news! I've always wanted this feature, and been voting for it for years.

There is one issue, though. When I make club selection on my Gear S3 by rotating the bezel, the screen is completely messed up by strange graphics. (Looks very similar to when I select the menu with the three dots,to note a penalty, the same the screen also becomes messed up.

Well,I downloaded this update first thing this morning and used it for 18 holes straight away and it worked perfectly! Phone is Samsung Note 8, battery at 93% at start of round, 71% at the end. Watch is Samsung Galaxy 42mm, battery at 90% at start and 52% at end. Absolutely no issues during the round at all, except that occassionally I forgot to input the club! Well done to everyone involved in developing this much needed feature.

Thank you all for the great feedback!

Knud and Peter, we saw reports of the corrupted image in selection page, but still can't reproduce it. What are the phone and watch make and model you are using?

Mike, unfortunately no - this requires Tizen 4, so it's only supported on Galaxy S3 or later.

Richard, glad to hear everything is working well! Do let us know if you notice any problems in the future or have any other comments.

Played 18 today, worked great for me in stand alone mode getting GPS data from watch.  No issues with club selection screeen ....  Tracked every shot and marked flag.  No issues beyond what is expected with GPS and short putts not registering quite right (reason I only track first putt)

So am I correct you just update the app on the phone and its good to go? I did this, put watch in standalone mode, start new round, select shot but where does club selection come up?

You have to update watch also, then go into app on phone, settings, smart watch sync & select "track shot distances & clubs"

Do you have to be a premium member to use this feature?
When I try to go into settings to pair my gear S3 it says I need a premium membership

Good news, just a thought.  If you don't want to turn off bluetooth so you can still get other notifications, disabling Location Services on your phone will force the phone to go to standalone mode. Works very very well.

Same graphic issues here. Only when using the bezel.
Samsung S10, Galaxy watch active 2.

I noticed, that all users with this problem maybe not use english language as default on their devices.

Played yesterday and the club selection worked great!

I used a Samsung Galaxy watch and had no issues. I was using Bluetooth. Not sure if I can be use standalone mode of someone can chime in.

One feedback I had was that after you select a shot, that the screen can go to the recommended club it thinks you should have used. For example, I hit a drive and had an AW in but for me to select the AW, I would have to rotate the bezel to the next screen to select the AW club. If it some how goes to what the recommended club automatically, I would be quicker to select the club used.

Other then that, everything worked great!

Yes, works perfectly for me in stand alone mode too, First Class.

How far away is using the tags on the watch?  I know there are samsung NFC access issues here, but that would make it perfect for me.

Ran this on Saturday and largely worked well apart from some GPS issues. My only comment would be using the yardage to decided whether to show wedges without scrolling across would be a big help as scrolling with a glove on can be a little tricky.

Thank you everyone for trying the beta and providing great feedback! We will be starting staged rollout of the feature to all Golf Pad users this week.

Regarding auto-scrolling to the recommended club - this makes total sense! It should already work that way when there's a club recommendation shown on the watch. However the current version scrolled to driver if you're really close to the green and there's no recommendation. We are fixing this to auto-scroll to the shortest wedge in this case. The fix will be included in the next update of the watch app.

Unfortunately we still don't have a fix for the issue where display gets corrupted in club selection screen for some users. We are collecting the information about what device combinations are affected. Thank you everyone who sent us the device info. If you just noticed the problem and have not reported it yet, please send your phone and watch models to sup...@golfpadgps.com or post in this forum. Jochen, good idea regarding the default language - we'll check if that makes a difference.

If you'd like to try smartwatch sync but don't have Golf Pad Premium yet, please email sup...@golfpadgps.com. We'll provide a trial upgrade code, so you can check that and other premium features.

Finally, we are currently working on yet another update that will show additional information like elevation change, shot being tracked, distances to layups and more. We will send an announcement when it's ready for beta testing.

Jochen, this is a brilliant insight! We confirmed the problem with corrupt display is related to non-English locales. Specifically, it happens in the countries where comma is used instead of a dot as a decimal separator. This is a bug in the software library we use for circular menu page. We got it fixed within the library - the updated version is now waiting for Samsung's review and should be available for download in a week or so.

Big thanks for catching this! I'll be sending you a small token of our appreciation via email.

I agree with this, although you don't have to be old!  I wear glasses for reading but not for golf so an option for clarity throughout the App would be great.  I cannot clearly see which hole is selected for distances nor which club for shot selection so often end up guessing,  which is not ideal.

Is this achievable do you think?

Hi all. Samsung has approved the new version of the watch app that includes the fix for default club selection and corrupted display in the club menu. Please update the app and give it a try. Note, Samsung Wearable app sometimes says Golf Pad is up to date in app settings, even if a newer version is available. Please update using the instructions here: https://support.golfpadgps.com/support/solutions/articles/4524

Hi all,

I originally used this app with a Galaxy Watch on an extended trial basis.

I stopped using it completely in favour of another app because of the problems but have been following this thread throughout.

I was very pleased to see that the update was being received so well and intended to try the app again only now, we are no longer even allowed to play golf here in the UK!!! All courses are closed!

All I can say is stay safe everyone and let's look forward to being able to using this app in the future.

Hey there!

Although I can't test this on the course yet I just tried the new feature out at home and for some reason if I scroll through the club options on my Samsung Galaxy Watch (with the bezel) and select anything but the driver it adds the club to the next hole?? I tried this in both the stand-alone and connected to the phone modes.

The only way I can select a club and stay on the same hole is by using the touch screen and selecting the club. My issue is that some club's are on the next screen which requires scrolling... I also made sure all apps are updated to the latest beta version.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Milan

Knud, thank you for confirming the display bug is fixed!

Everyone, thanks again for testing and providing feedback. We are in the same situation here in Washington state. Golf courses and most other businesses are closed for a while. Hopefully the the outbreak slows down soon and courses (and everything else) reopens soon. Stay safe out there!

Hi, I'm in Australia, I have a Galaxy watch, in the watch app store the latest version is 5.2.4. You say it should be 5.3.4. Is it not available in Australia yet? Or am I missing something? I clicked on the link in your post and the the next link that directs you to the installation pages which says version 5.3.4 now but when I push on install it then reverts to the installation pages with version 5.2.4

Played my first 9 holes after a long intermission, with Gear S3 app 5.4.4.
Club selection is very convenient, and the whole operation of the watch during play of a hole is quite natural, and there is no longer a danger that an accidental touch of the bezel advances to a new hole.
Well done!

There is one annoyance: the circular menu for the clubs and the extra buttons (redo, penalty, putt out, ...) doesn't fit on one screen, so you have to move back and forth between screens quite a bit.
For me that page break was right among my wedges, so shot entry is quite cumbersone near the greeen.
All the selections needed around the green (short game clubs, putter, and the extra buttons should be on a single screen.

I just noticed that there is an update, 5.4.5, but Samsung made it quite difficult to update. They ask for the stupid app store password at the most inconvenient time, and this time they even insisted that I change that damn password. And you have to pass the idiot test (the captcha) on top of that. What morons.

I have played a 9 hole on Sunday, first time testing the new standalone app with club selection and I must say I'm really satisfied with it.

The location was promptly acquired, then Bluetooth off and the phone in the cart pocket. Club selection really intuitive and simple, distances correct, and the battery after two 9 hole rounds still on 33%, the transfer after the establishing the BT connection also without problems, no need to correct anything.

It is the first time that I am completely satisfied with the app, bravo!

One suggestion though, custom arrangement of the clubs on the watch, so that the most used ones come to the first page. I always needed to go to page 2 in order to get to putter. And, please separate the penalty from the putter, one can easily miscklick to penalty instead of putter. Happened to me once.

But, everything considered, one giant progress, way to go!

Hey all,

Just tried the new update with club selection and everything worked perfectly for me! I'm running a Samsung Galaxy Watch and had about 55% battery left after the round. I do have bluetooth connected at all times and it automatically syncs to my phone whenever I get within range again (probably the reason for the extra battery drain). As well, since I had tracked quite a few rounds last year, it was starting me at the club recomended by Golf Pad based on average distance which was super cool. I didn't have to scroll very far to pick any of the clubs I wanted to use; usually just a click up or down depending on my preference! I had no problems adding penatly shots or undoing actions.

One thing I was wondering is it seems that it doesn't register or "know" whenever you are playing a bunker shot. It tracks me in the bunker but all my shots are considered "rough" unless I manually change it after the round. Is there a way to pick a club and tell the app that it's a 56 from the Sand vs the Rough?

Can't wait for the next update (for me, it would be quick distances to hazards markers).

Thanks again for all the great work!

Thank you everyone for testing the new features on Samsung and providing the feedback! We are really glad to hear most of you enjoy the updates!

Regarding the specific questions:

- The watch app should pre-select the recommended club when you are adding a shot. If you are on the green, this means pre-selecting the putter. So you should not need long scrolls in most cases. If it does not work that way, please send a problem report (instructions below).

- Both lie type selection (sand, fairway, rough, recovery, etc.) and distances to hazards are on our future features list. Stay tuned for updates.

- We noticed some users have really poor battery life on the watch while it's not an issue for others. We could not reproduce this on any of our test watches yet, but we'll keep looking into it. If you notice this happening, please send a problem report while round is still active (instructions below).

If you notice a problem in Golf Pad on Samsung watch, please scroll down to the information screen and tap Bug Report in there. Make sure the watch and the phone are connected over Bluetooth. Please follow that with a problem report from the phone (Golf Pad preferences / Help / Report a problem / Email) and include a brief description of what went wrong. We really appreciate your help on this!

Thank you,
Golf Pad team.

Great job, can't wait to test on Wear OS... is that in development?

Can you scan the tags for each club to the watch for each shot, rather then to the phone
