Hi,

I am keen to get involved in efforts to create a standard XML schema
for Golf related data.

I think if this could be established it would really help to enable
golfers to make the effort to enter their analysis in a standard
format that could in principle be loaded into whatever software they
want to use to do the analysis of their scores.

I see some great prospects for solutions such as iPhone / Android /
Windows Mobile apps to capture data in this format in a way that
offers simple input for golfers after they have played a round.

I know here in the UK we have systems that publish the scores from the
competitions at our local clubs on the web via a website www.howdidido.com
and if we could get this sort of site to import / export detailed
round data in GolfML format it would offer significant value to both
them and the users of these types of site and golf analysis software
in general.

Personally I have significant commercial experience with XML and XML
Schemas and as a very enthusiastic 23 handicap golfer I would really
like to see this idea bear fruit.

Are you still working on this concept, how far have you got so far and
what areas need completing?

Cheers,
Mat Wood

Hello Mat,

Yes, the project is more active than it ever was!

I just finished the XML Schema (description + documentation).
I also wrote a stylesheet (available in the source code repository) to
automatically generate wiki pages from the XML Schema documentation.
So the wiki currently reflect the exact status of the schema.

In the repository, I also uploaded a few sample documents and
stylesheets to convert those documents into usable tools such as
personal scorecard and yardage book.

I started a comprehensive example (a whole set of files) for my home
course, and I'm busy drawing shapes of interest (fairways, greens,
bunkers, trees, lakes) in Google Earth to generate a GPS-aware GolfML
document. From that document, I'll show how to use stylesheets to
convert it into a nice scorecard, HTML presentation, and SVG graphic
yardage book.

We just need sites like yours start using it!

Best regards,

Pierre
