Hi

I use Gold Wave on a limited basis.  Last year I was successfully able to record off an online file (not you tube).  After the most recent update, this is not the situation.  I record, but the most I hear after saving the file is a murmur.

If I play a file recorded in the years past, it plays fine, so I am concluding it is a recording issue and not a playing issue.  I have looked in the device tab and went to microphone.  I changed choices without any improvement.  What to do?

I am using a Windows 11 laptop and the latest JAWS software.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi  Barbara, It has been a really long time since I've gotten to record anything using my goldwave, but I still want to.  I am wondering if after going to Win 11, do you still have that file called lame?  Maybe it is on the goldwave website.  I only thought about it at all, because of you bringing up
this mystery. That might not be the case though because I don't know much about, it since  2015.

Hi Audrey,

It is an idea, but this was working fine last year on the same laptop.  Hmm.

I keep avoiding letting my laptop change to windows 11, just as a gut reaction, because I haven't had time to read up on their own warnings about how some things might not work the same.  I haven't read it so I don't know what things or why. It keeps pushing it, and has taken the earlier link supposedly telling the whats and whys away from the  forced pushing it page I feel like I could accidentally get without really wanting to or being prepared for.  Some other geek type newsletter I just have the free version of, has an article on the paid version, which is worth it, except that I'm still way too broke no matter how much it is worth it.  All my time is consumed applying for any type of assistance possible that I qualify for, and giving accountability reports on how that's going to the handful of people helping me survive. Four hours of extra reading for every update of  something several times a week, just has to be triaged.  There's gotta be a free way to gather the warning link information out there.  Maybe one day I will look it up.  I just suspect windows updates in general automatically change settings from how they were left and add things not mentioned, while removing other things just prophylacticly, and not informing users.  Sorry for the stream of consciousness.  I realize now, I sometimes do this when I need to go offline for awhile, and tend to three dimensional things like shifting the hand wash phases.  :)  I hope you can get it figured out.  I hope I can too, if I ever get to record again.  🍀
