Greetings,

a nice, clear, concise message sent to the VicugL group, so I paste it in
after my comments.

I used the speech converter from text to speech in my latest TechTalk
magazine (link sent privately on request) and though it was ok, would have
been better if I had used a speech engine other than the default. Daniel
would, I am sure, have suited this very well.

so, if you wish to know how to convert a speech file into text, see the post
pasted back below.

If others have experiences they wish to give, please do so, I will
experiment further with this facility.

A while ago, several people asked me what I did to get the Goldlwave speech
converter to work. I just did it, and here are the steps:

1. Record a file in the usual way. You don't have to save it.

2. Press ctrl+a to select the entire sound file.

3. Press ctrl+c to copy the file to the clipboard.

4. Press alt+t, then S, to go into the Speech Converter.

5. Press ctrl+v to paste the sound file into the current window.

6. Press the context key, arrow to Dictate, and press enter.

7. Tab through the dialog box that opens up, selecting a speech recognition
engine, checking the box that says the source is the current sound file, and
pressing OK.

Speech recognition begins after that. You'll hear the computer whirring and
so on. When it settles down, the text is complete.

Arrow down the window. The first few lines give you instructions for pasting
your text in. Arrow past that, and you'll find the text.

Hi guys

wonder if there is anyone on this list who might be able to help me with
recording from line in and casette recordings.

i'm trying to record cassette tapes from line in and when I play the
files back, there are jumps and skips present.

i'm using the latest version of goldwave, 5.58.

i've tried to research this issue but am drawing a blank. or the
goldwave help file tells me to get a new sound card. that is not exactly
helpful.

does anyone have a clue why i'm getting this in recordings?

i'd be greatful for any help.

thanks

Greetings,

Do the skips always occur in the same place? I've had skips but not in the
same place, I put this down to my processor not being able to cope, probably
because I'm asking it to do too much at the same time.

If the skips are always in the same place, then it sounds like a GoldWave or
SoundCard driver problem.

May I suggest try totalRecorder and see if it gives the same results.

Hi Collin

yes seem seems to be the same place and i've tried all sorts now.

yes i'll try another program and see if the same thing occurs.

it's really anoying to say the least.

i'm not doing anything else on the computer that i'm using for
recording, unless something is running in the background, i'm totally
stumped.

thanks for the suggestions

I have FireFox 4, and Webvisum just showed up on my context (right-click)
menu. It works well, and I'm a happy fella.

I'd also be interested in learning how to do this. Thanks!

Hi Kenneth

Do you mean version 1.30? I'm using 1.70 and have been for several years
now. But I find Goldwave far more versatile.

Hi

funny enough I used to use that but thought goldwave would be a better
choice. or thought so until I have this skipping issue.

maybe i'll go back to useing CDex instead.

it's kind of reasuring that someone else had similar issues to me though.

thanks.

Greetings,

I've never had issues with skips whilst recording in GW or TR, the only
problem has been of my own making, i.e other things on the machine whilst
using the programs.

Nor, so far, have I had problems with recordings via the line in but then I
use an external synth and generally use TR to record off the net.

hello Roger:
Yes, i do mean version 1.30 which is a old version of C dex. I have tried
using gold wave 4.27 in several computers and have troubles with it as a
recorder. What I do is to do my recordings with C dex and load the .wav file
into gold wave for editing. I have been doing my recording this way for
almiost ten years now and for me it works just fine.
As for anyone else who wants to learn how to record audio my way there's a
document on doing this on my web site at:

www.tex1.net/molly14tx
just look in the music link.

Hello Luna:My issue with the recorder on gold wave was that gold wave would
stop recording and give me some kind of error message. After that one
happened too many times I went back to C dex 1.30. I tried a newer C dex and
had other problems with it as well, so I'm back to the only one that really
works for me.

C dex records the file as a wav file than I load the file into gold wave, do
the editing and save the file as a mp3, and go back to the C dex output
files folder and delete all of the wav files I no longer need.

Are you sure that you don't have a Flaky audio cable?

If you or any of your family and or friends have any sight, I have my
pictures on my web site, as well as recipes from my home. See the pictures
and recipes links.

I have done over one hundred and seventy talking books as well as all of my
records with C dex and gold wave.

I could trade if you like old time country. By the way, if you are looking
for a great site on the web to buy music mp3 files from than take a look at:

Emusic.com

A sighted person will have to set up their download manager for you but once
set up the site is screen reader friendly. The download manager needs to be
set up so it clears each download as it is done downloading.

There is no percent of download numbers on the download manager so the file
needs to be played through to make sure that whole file has been downloaded,
otherwise the site works fine for me.

Kenneth Atkins

P.S. If you will e-mail to me than I won't have to post my answers to the
gold wave list.
