hi, recently I started the 30 day trial of windowblinds because i wanted to skin my windows 10 with windows 7 style, i really hate the new interface, its really ugly, in the past i used to use stratisback to skin the taskbar, I did it without windowblinds installed, i like startisback because gives the style even in the jump lists and taskbar previews with round borders and the classic style of the close button in the taskbar preview, but i tried to do the same but with windowblinds installed, i am really disappointed, to start the taskbar previews does not change at all with any of the windowblinds styles included, the taskbar previews appears in black and without shadow and the start menu has the right side icon font in black, i tried with start10, again with 30 day trial but the program does not skin taskbar previews and jump list style, it appears with the very ugly windows 10 square-shaped style, i really hope that this issue gets resolved soon, i really like the windows 7 aero ui, thanks to the one that can resolve this issue

The Win 7 taskbar is back!!! I wondered if it was just nostalgia, but nope, switching back to Win 10 default look it's like night and day. I guess I forgot just how ugly Win 10 taskbar was because I got used to it. Never going back now!

I've been using ClassicShell, and now OpenShell since I installed Windows 10 back in 2019 or so. It's always worked fine for me, and it's free. I'm not sure where they get off on charging for a product like this. It was one of the first programs I installed, and it brought back the more familiar Windows 7 start menu. Honestly I think it looks better than startisback.

Edit again: There are videos on the internet, but I would highly suggest if you're not liking the start menus, look at OpenShell. The number of options they have for customization is pretty impressive. And again, it's free, and open source.

Oh I've had classicshell in the past, didn't like it. Personally, I actually prefer the Win10 start menu to the older ones on 7 and XP. The StartIsBack program lets you choose if you want that classic Windows style start menu, or Win 8.1, or Win 10 or any combination. I disable it because I actually like the revamped start menu in Win 10. What I didn't like was how ugly the taskbar was. The Aero Glass was just so much nicer and easier to see. This brings that visual aesthetic back for me, though like I said it's customizable to your liking.

You guys are going to hate me for this, but I actually really liked Windows 10's UI. It was a a great compromise to old+new, unlike Windows 8, which moved too far too fast.

I agree with 11, I really do not like what was done with the Start menu; at least you can left-align, but I can't move the bar to the side of my screen anymore without editing the registry.

Due to the fact that I have a tech support job, I'm not messing with the UI because my customers lack the...experience to do so. Makes it a lot easier to guide them if I need to. But jesus h fucking christ, I'm using a PC, not a tablet!

We reviewed the version of StartIsBack+ for Windows 8.1 back when it was released. If you have used that version before, you have a good understanding already what StartIsBack++ 2.0.1 for Windows 10 brings to the table.

StartIsBack++ 2.0.1 for Windows 10 is a commercial program. You can test it for 30 days, but if you want to continue using it, you will have to buy a license for the fair price of $2.99. This is even cheaper than the $4.99 that Stardock charges for its excellent Start10 program, especially since this is for a lifetime license.

As far as other improvements are concerned: you can configure the program to expand the Settings application directly in the start menu. This displays all pages of the Settings application right there for selection.

StartIsBack++ 2.0.1 ships with an improved Settings application search as well. Just type some characters and all Settings pages that match what you have typed are returned by the program for quick opening.

It is a good idea to go through the settings after installation to customize the program's functionality. You find plenty of options there to, for instance to hide all modern apps, or add custom folders to the start menu for quick access.

StartIsBack++ 2.0.1 replaces the original Windows 10 start menu with a custom version. You may use it to display a classic start menu on Windows 10 machines, and adjust plenty of other start menu or taskbar related options as well.

This said, if this all sounds like a commercial, I guess it is in a way. See, I just hope more folks use Start Menu X so it stays around for longer than ClassicShell did. To help support Start Menu X I will eventually pay for the Pro version, but the free version is still good enough for me.

If I remember correctly, SiB is tied/connected with Microsoft code (from the Windows 7 Start Menu) while Classic Shell is a completely independent start menu alternative, thus offering far more options and customisation. SiB remains a good option.

Still using ClassicShell, as i like to group similar programs together in sub-folders on the menu.
Will be interesting to see if Windows Creators Update (I signed up for it) breaks this, and other programs, next month.

I install Classicshell for colleagues who wants a more familiar start menu for Windows 10, however I use startisback for personal use and for my family members. Startisback is more polished product by a large margin. Also the developer keeps up with the latest Windows 10 updates including preview builds.
