It was the fourth Bollywood film (after Naujawan, Munna and Kanoon) that did not have any songs in it. What was remarkable was that a previous production from the same production house, i.e. B.R.Films, namely Kanoon, made in 1960, was also a song-less film and with the same leading lady Nanda. Another common feature of both Kanoon and Ittefaq was that in both these song-less films Salil Chowdhary was the Music Director.[5] This film is counted among the 17 consecutive hit films starring Rajesh Khanna in a lead role between 1969 and 1971, by including the two multi-starrer films Marayada and Andaz to the 15 consecutive solo hits he gave from 1969 to 1971.[6] This is also the last film Yash Chopra would direct for his brother before branching out to form his own production company Yash Raj Films.
The movie is 100 minutes long and has no songs. But, the makers recently shot for a promotional song with Sonakshi and Sidharth which was wrapped last night thus completing the whole shoot of the film.
Today, acclaimed filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma is making waves for daring to film a songless Bhoot (Ajay Devgan, Urmila Matondkar, Fardeen Khan, Rekha, Nana Patekar). But B R Chopra showed similar gumption decades ago when he made two successful films without songs in the 1960s -- Kanoon (1960) and Ittefaq (1969). It is also apparent to any avid filmgoer that Varma's earlier film Kaun (Urmila, Manoj Bajpai) had a hangover, conscious or otherwise, of Ittefaq.
The upcoming film Ittefaq, starring Sidharth Malhotra, Sonakshi Sinha and Akshaye Khanna, has been garnering a lot of attention ever since the trailer was released. The premise and genre of the film demands it to be sans songs, as proclaimed by the filmmakers themselves.
I do know that Achanak, *ing Vinod Khanna, was the first Indian movie, or was it
the first Hindi movie, with no songs. Would the netgurus kindly provide the
names of other movies, which similarly, donot contain any songs?
Coming to think of it, I think that there is an old Tamil movie, Andha Naal,
starring Sivaji Ganesan and Pandaribai, which does not contain any songs. Will
some netguru be able to provide the exact details in this regard?
CheersAmbrish - asun...@eccdb1.pms.ford.com P.S. - Please donot mind this paradoxical question on 'non-musical' movies, in
a group discussing indian music.
In this context I remember a movie by Sunil Dutt in which he is
the only actor, i.e does a solo act. Pretty boring! That is also
a first I guess. Incidentally that movie had no songs in it. -Kalyan
