Hi Everyone! I hope all is well with all of the Doodle families out
there and I hope that everyone is having a beautiful holiday season!
Just a quick update...I am Duke & Sierra's Mom....Sierra is from Tula
& Cherokees 3/14/08 litter, and our Duke is from a friend of Teri's
born 1/08/08. They each of completely different coats...Duke is like
a bear...silky, thick, curly black fur. He has been groomed probably
3 times now. Sierra on the other hand has the wavy red silky shiny
coat. (& just gorgeous I must add!!!) And she has never been groomed.
I've been able to find tons of grooming pictures online of Doods with
the Curly coat like Duke, but none of the straighter coat like
Sierra. I'm just not sure what to do with her. I do have an
appointment for the 2 of them this Monday. Can anyone offer advice on
how often this type of coat should be groomed...& how long it should
be to keep this beautiful doodle appearance? I'm just not sure what's
too long? I would just love to see pictures of yours that have
already been groomed....that would help a great deal!! I'm also
thinking (after reading so many posts about the ice balls formed in
their fur) a trim would help keep that down to a minimum as well. I
think I follow the majority and just let them chew the snow and ice
off. Seems to work pretty well so far!
Well, I hope someone can help guide me. Any advice at all would be
appreciated!
Take care all and have a great day

I can't help with the coat, as Obi (from Blue & Tucker 1/31/07) is thick and
curly as well.
But for the ice balls on the feet, I keep Obi's feet cut really short in the
winter. Top & Bottom!
Keeping the fur cut as short as possible underneath around his pads allow
for less room for ice to cling.
Keeping the fur short on top of his feet again allows for less clinging room
:)
good luck!

Hi
I keep Duke and Dell's feet trimmed short...yes....I let them chew the
ice off but they do not have a lot of hair on their
feet....
The one thing I am going to say regarding cuts is ask them to scissor
cut your dogs....if you are going to spend the
money on a groomer ask them to scissor cut particularly when they have
the thick flat coats....it is worth it......that all
being said Duke and Dell were sheared a couple of months ago and their
coats are still growing out :o)
Happy Holidays everyone!
Cheers
Di Duke Dell and Bill not necessarily in that order :o)
