Hi, Here's the garden news for this week.

Potluck and Fox Trot in the Garden - Saturday, starting 5:30 pm

When: Saturday, May 14, 2011

5:30 start and fox trot lesson at 6:30 bring your favorite dish and drink, also in the interests of low waste, please bring a plate, utensils, and cup.

Please click here to sign up for bringing a dish.

Composting:

The garden compost team has moved the compost bin system next to the butterfly garden fence and developed composting guidelines. Please review these guidelines (linked) prior to adding compost materials to the bins. Julie Gleason, master composter, has adopted our garden this year and will be providing training sessions throughout the season. Feel free to contact her if you have questions.

Call for carpenters – the compost team would like to have two more bin systems built for the garden similar to the existing bins. Please contact Kara Edewaard if you are available to help.

Perennial Gardeners

To encourage the planting of specific items in the perennial beds as well as other plots, we've posted some great information here: Garden Resources, under Planting for beneficial insects.

And Katie has many of the things on the list as potted up plants or seeds. To further encourage planting, we can make these available to people. Specifically, she has seed of Dill (8 pkts), Fennel (6 pkts), Annual Pincushion Flower: ‘Fire King’ (6 pkts) and Starflower (10 pkts). Plants:  Basket of Gold (6), Borage (6), Blue Globe Thistle (6), Perennial Bachelor’s Button (6), Ornamental Oregano: ‘Hopley’s Purple” (3), ‘Hop Flowered’ (3), and ‘Herrenhausen’ (3), and Zinnia ‘Inca’ (12).

Garden Materials

Near the northeast entrance you'll find compost, topsoil, and soon, mulch. Please read the signs on the fence for amounts available. You may also want to spread the compost out over the season.
