Hi everyone - We've got a couple of fun events planned for this Thursday. Come on by and enjoy.

Thursday, Sept 22

The last Happy Hour of the summer - recipe swap - from 6:00pm onwards, we will be doing a recipe swap, so come with 8-10 printouts of one of your favorite recipes using your garden veggies or herbs.  Please BYOB and bring an appetizer or finger food dish to share. Your hosts will be Amy, Sara and Rachel.

First (and last :) movie of the season Brian Qualstrom will be hosting a movie at the garden after dark (and the recipe swap.) He's planning either The Count of Monte Cristo or Raiders of the Lost Ark. Please let Brian know if you can help, and we'll confirm the movie before Thursday night.

A couple of other items:

Classes - We had the most interest in the seasonal, companion & succession planting class, but from only 4 people. We may wait to have the class next spring, but just email back if you'd really like it this autumn.

End of season - Garden water will be turned off sometime towards the end of October (earlier if there's a freeze forecast.). Each gardener is responsible for clearing their plot before the close of the season. All dead plants, weeds, trash, tools, sticks and cages are to be removed or stored by November 1st (Unless arrangements are made for late season gardening.) Also, drip systems must be put away.

Drip System - winter prep - Timers need to be removed from the pedestals (carefully) and drained for winter storage. The batteries need to be removed and discarded – fresh ones will be put in next year – don’t leave the batteries installed over the winter. Once drained, they can be stored in a box in the shed, and the garden will lock them up for the winter. When the timer is taken off, leave it off for at least 10 minutes to drain the pipes/tubing before covering the inlet coupling. We will later blow the water out of the system. Take a couple small plastic bags (baggies) and several rubber bands and cover the inlet coupler that was connected to the outlet of the timer to keep dirt and guck from getting there and clogging your emitters next year when the water is applied and pushes any crap accumulated inside the pipe down to the emitters.

thanks!
