Here's some news for all you gardeners.

Tonight Thursday July 14th
Rememder to come by the garden tonight for Happy Hour at 6:00pm.  Bring a dish of finger foods or appetizers to share. Also BYOB. (There's a roof, so we won't get wet.)

And Bruce will be working on the drainage by the main path. If you can help a little bit before or during the happy hour, that'd be great. thanks!
Saturday July 16th
Work day starting at 9 am to finish prep for next week's city council visit. If you haven't been in a while, please come. We're getting a lot done, thanks to everyone who's been helping!
Thursday July 21st
City Council visit 6:00 pm - The Golden City Council will visit the garden to see how it's growing in preparation for signing a long term agreement with us. Please think about being in the garden between 6 and 7 pm. This would be a great time to tend your plot, show friends the garden, be there playing with your kids, or just be there! We want to show the great community were building.
Why we labor (and gather) together in the garden
A community garden is a great place to grow veggies for our families, but it's also about more than that. It's about growing community. When we come together, we grow together. And growing together strengthens our community, which strengthens and heals all of us. It's been found that people living in strong communities are healthier and happier.

So, thank you for working as a group at the garden, coming to garden events, and building community with us. You're making us all healthier. If you're interested, here's a short article on volunteering and community building.

Help needed - We have a few garden tasks that could be done from the comfort of your own home. Let us know if you can help. Here they are:
  • Membership directory - Combine names with photos to publish a membership directory.
  • Thank you card for the Shade Pavilion - Can you create a nice card we could all sign?
  • Water posts - It'd be great to identify who's at what water post so we can get groups to form, and have people taking turns being a point of contact for that water post.
Last Saturday Work Day was a big success – thank you everyone. And a special thank you to Craig and his green tractor.
We accomplished a lot. Irrigation trunk lines were laid and fines were spread on the labyrinth. Drainage plan trenching was completed, road base was spread on the north road, the “yard area” was cleaned up, and we made a good start on the river rock swales. Weeds were mowed around the shed and along the north ditch, and last, but not least, the front north native grass hillside looks fabulous – no weeds!

The City Council and Staff are coming to visit July 21 – please take advantage of our recent rainfall to weed around your own plot and spread fresh mulch if your path needs it.

Need more hours? Here are a few things to do:
  • Spread labyrinth (They're already there, just need spreading.)
  • Spread mulch on:
    • The east path between the Together Church plot and the native grass area; also north between  the Together Church plot and the river rock swale
    • The west bed of the b’fly garden
    • The last orchard berm
Weeding:
  • o       North of the b’fly garden between the fence and road
  • o       Perennial bed 14 and along the central path in this area
  • o       Inside the 8th St gate  along the fence
  • o       The orchard area
  • o       The mulched areas to the south and west of the labyrinth
  • o       The front south hillside native grass (use boards to walk on this area)
  • o       The back native grass area
Miscellaneous:
  • o       Move west pile of weeds on north road to east area with sign “Weed Pile”
  • o       Move water tanks to the orchard area (they're plastic, and light!)
Thanks again.
Katie
