Last night's City Council Visit - Thank you to everyone who came out to the garden to show support. That was a fantastic showing and really helped show off the garden. City Council was really impressed with the garden, and things are looking good for a long term agreement.

Buffalo Bills Day Parade - Saturday July 30 9 am - Come on out and walk the parade with us. This is our second year and will be a lot of fun. Also, please help prepare for the parade. Let Matt (720-381-2420) know if you can help.

Produce Pickup - If you can't harvest, here's a great option: You (or a neighbor) can put one of those striped stakes (in the food collection box) in your plot and the food bank growing team will harvest and take your food to one of the two food banks in Golden. Thank you for helping those in need, and keeping produce from going to waste.

The Golden Gardeners Garden Club invites you to a talk by Myron Yhon, Manager of O’Toole’s, Monday, July 25, 1pm at the United First Methodist Church, 1500 Ford St, Golden (entrance and parking off Jackson St.). Bring your gardening questions - Myron knows just about everything about plants. For more info call Katie at 303-279-5743.

Happy Hour At The Garden - Fox trot lesson at the happy hour next Thursday at 6 pm. Bring a dish of finger foods or appetizers to share. Also BYOB. (Happy hours every other Thursday.)

New Compost Bins:

  • The new bins are in place. Thanks to those that helped make this happened! Please use these new bins as the other bin by the butterfly garden is full.
  • We need volunteers to level the bins (applying dirt and mulch where needed) and to mulch around the 3 bin system furthest west.
  • We need volunteers to help manage the bins. Contact Kara Edewaard, if interested.

Composting: Please ensure you are following the compost guidelines when adding to the bins. Add 2/3 brown (use the leaves in the large leaf storage bin) to 1/3 green, MIX and add water. Guidelines are attached.

Completed work - Last weekend we got the east end drainage project completed. A big thanks to Bruce and Stew!

Things to Do:

Rake out the fines on Canyon Blvd, leaving the path “crowned” (center of path is higher than the sides) (I have a call in to Kemp, this may be done already)

Shore up the outer ring of labyrinth stones with fines and mulch up to that point. The fines are out there.
Weed out the grass on the north side of the butterfly garden (and spread fresh mulch); weed inside the 8th St gate, the west butterfly garden bed, the south front hillside native grass area and the back native grass area (you can walk out there now – take out everything that doesn’t look like a small grass seedling).
Thanks everyone!
