Work day - Saturday May 7th 9 to 11:30 am - Bruce and Katie are going to lead a workday to rake out the areas that are going to be planted with native grass. People need to bring metal seedbed rakes, gloves, water, sunscreen, and hats. If we get the seedbeds done, we will start on chores to tidy up for Opening Day.
Dogs are welcome in the garden, but please keep them close at hand, so they don't disturb other's property or 'peace' of mind. Also, please be sure to leave no trace. thank you.Perennial beds - We have p1, p3, & p8 up for adopting if you care to plant something beneficial to visitors (people or insects). The list of plants for insects includes such delights as dill, English lavender, marguerites, cosmos, sea lavender and bergamot. And time spent in these beds counts towards your garden contribution.Top Soil - There's more topsoil. Please, no more than 3 wheelbarrows per 10x10.
Compost - We'll get more soon. Please no more than 3.35 gallons per 10x10. (correction from last week: 1/2 cubic foot = 3.35 gallons) We'll get more info on the best use of compost soon.Drip, drip, drip - We may be getting more donations of drip stands and timers sometime later this year. Click here to let us know if you'd like a timer.Last Saturday - 12 hearty souls turned out in a biting wind putting in a total of 35 hours. We pretty much completed all four cleanup objectives: Pavilion scrap wood. Branches and non compostible (most of this went into the city's mulch source pile) Things outside the shed (and inside) Concrete and asphalt all around - not complete The following were also tackled : Mulch along the North side road | Move fines from flume - re-fine the diagonal road between the orchard and native grass areas. | Mulch west gate | Empty and move the NE compost bin | Began raking out west grass area - 10-20% complete. And Bruce gave a drip class.Play - Today saw two mothers relaxing as their 4 little boys thoroughly enjoyed the pile of topsoil, shovels and toy trucks in full use.
