本周日（2006.4.23）上午8:30将举行全国英语专业四级统考（TEM4），第一部分开始的听力播放频率为FM88.7，所有在紫金港的同学都可以同步收听。建议非英语专业的同学们利用这个机会感受并自测一下。
1. 短文听写（15分钟）
共朗读4遍，第1、4遍为正常朗读，第2、3遍为同一意群连读，分别在意群处停顿15秒供考生书写。下面为2005年的听写文本，斜线表示停顿位置：
It is generally believed that wrist watches are an exception / to the
normal sequence in the evolution of man's jewelry. / Reversing the
usual order, they were first worn by women, / and then adopted by men.
/ In the old days, queens included wrist watches among their crown
jewelry. / Later, they were worn by Swiss workers and farmers. / Until
World War I, Americans associated the watch with fortune hunters. /
Then army officers discovered that the wrist watch was most practical
for active combat. / Race car drivers also loved to wear wrist watches,
/ and pilots found them most useful while flying. / Soon men dared to
wear wrist watches without feeling self-conscious. / By 1924, some 30
percent of man's watches were worn on the wrist. / Today, the figure is
90 percent. / And they are now worn by both men and women / for
practical purposes rather than for decoration.
