Famed as the epitome of eternal love, Taj Mahal is an architectural
masterpiece of bygone era which still possesses its grace and
elegance. This noteworthy World Heritage Site of our country was
constructed by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz
Mahal after her death. Stretches to vast area on the banks of River

Mahotsva, this 10 day long carnival is entirely dedicated to the
marble monument of Taj Mahal. This cultural fiesta is celebrated from
18 to 27 February at Shilpgram near the Eastern gate of Taj Mahal.

From the time of its inception i.e 1992 to till date, the grandeur of
Taj Mahotsva has reached to greater heights. With every passing year,
the number of Indian and foreign spectators has increased a lot. This
year i.e 2010, Taj Mahotsva has reached in its 20th year of
celebration. The theme for this year's Taj Mahotsva is " Ek Mahotsva
Prem Ka" ( A festival of love).

Taj Mahotsva is a festive introduction to India as a whole and Uttar
Pradesh in particular. This cultural bonanza is beneficiary for both
spectators and artisans of rural areas. It gives them excellent
platform to showcase their skills. And for spectators, Taj Mahotsva is
a golden opportunity to witness extensive range of art, craft, culture
and cuisines of India under one single roof. Even you can purchase the
magnificent work of art and craft at a reasonable price.

Some of the items which are display in this fiesta includes wood/stone
carvings from Tamil Nadu, Bamboo/cane work from North East India,
Paper mash work from South India and Kashmir, the marble and zardozi
work from Agra, wood carving from Saharanpur, brass wares from
Moradabad, hand made carpets from Bhadohi, Pottery from Khurja, Chikan
work from Lucknow, silk & zari work from Banaras, shawls & carpets
from Kashmir/Gujarat and hand printing from Farrukhabad and Kantha
stitch from west Bengal etc.

Apart from shopping, you can also experience a the magnetic folk,
classical, Semi-classical and popular dance and music of India
performed by the renowned artists of our country. But, the main
highlight of this cultural progarmme is the dance and music
performances of Braj Bhumi, which are performed the way they used to
be centuries ago.
