There are new snapshot builds which are v3.7-sp1 plus the following features:
  • Plan Activity from Activities menu
  • Add Planned Activity from Calendar conxtext menu
  • Agenda view on the Calendar chart

Planned activities are similar to Manual Activities initially happening in the future, a new metadata field (Planned) allows to filter them (!Planned for actual activities) and they use a different background in Activities list.

When you create a Planned Bike activity you can attach a workout file from your Workout Library, if you select an ERG type one Duration and some Power related metrics will be automatically estimated, otherwise you can manually override them. Additionally you can directly jump from the Planned activity in Calendar (Agenda View is handy for this) to Train for workout execution.

For Run and Swim activities you can use the Laps Editor to enter Distance and Time for the planned laps so time/distance related metrics are automatically estimated, regrettably there is no way to change that after you save the activity, this is currently a limitation for both Manual and Planned activities we should fix sometime. Planned and Completed activities can be compared with the full data in activities view in this case.

Once you have created several Planned activities you can check how your PMC would evolve if you complete them, this is called the Expected PMC and you can find sample charts for that in Test Charts for both BikeStress/TSS and TriScore, the charts will be automatically updated over time considering only completed activities.

That's pretty much what's available now, feel free to try and comment. Next step would be to be able to mark a Planned activity as completed by an Actual activity.

Cheers, Ale.

There is an open issue about completed activities (https://github.com/GoldenCheetah/GoldenCheetah/issues/4675) if anyone wants to participate in the discussion.

Now there is a Pull Request (https://github.com/GoldenCheetah/GoldenCheetah/pull/4772) whose binaries for testing can be downloaded from https://ci.appveyor.com/project/Joern-R/goldencheetah-knhd8/builds/53284235, select your OS and go to Artifact tab to download, there is a daily quota for downloads so you may need to retry another day.
Feedback is welcome.

PR #4772 was just updated to ensure consistency when moving or deleting linked activities (e.g. changing date or time in the MetadataWindow). Here I need as much testing help as possible! Probably I missed the one or other wizard or path to modify activities. Additionally a linked() datafilter access function was added.

Thanks Joachim, I’ve been using this branch regularly without problems, so no regressions detected for now, I will update and continue testing.
When we can merge this PR I would like to trigger a dev release to have stable binaries before to migrate Python on snapshots which I expect will generate other kind of issues.
Cheers, Ale.

Thanks for update, Ale! The following tasks remain on my list before I would think about merging the PR:
  • Dialog to manually select the activity to link (look x days back, y days forward - but never beyond current day)
  • Tool to clear all inconsistent links (unidirectional, missing other, inconsistent links), accessible from Activity menu in main toolbar
  • Optimize order, grouping and wording of menu entries (calendar popups)
Where I am unsure if really required:
  • Update the calendar (jump to month, week, day) to show the linked activity (if not already visible)
  • Hide all past planned activities in calendar that are marked as completed
