Is your issue persistent?  I've seen the same thing running OS X 10.9.5, but eventually it works.

Yeah it is - tried it 8-10 times and got the same failure message each time.

Damien has pushed a Joule fix that will be in RC3, not sure if it is related to this problem but will be curious to know either way.

No my fix was for the (new) Joule GPS+ (I don't have specifications but the download currently work with the code).

In this case I suspect a ftdi driver problem.
With Mac OS 10.9 (Mavericks) and later, Apple has built their own version of the FTDI but you still need to install the original ftdi driver to use the Joule (and disabled the Apple one)

Have you installed Poweragent (a new installation do this) ? Is it working with your Joule ?

Poweragent (latest version) will not work either - error "No device found".  Joule GPS is connected via UBS cable to the Mac but for some reason neither GoldenCheetah nor Poweragent can recognize the device.

As of January 2016 and using the latest Golden Cheetah v. 3.3, it stills seems impossible to download activity data from a  Joule GPS.  I still get the "read timeout" error, too.  Bummer.

Did you follow Damien's instructions in this thread to reinstall Poweragent to get the latest driver ?
This is not a GC issue, it is an issue with Apple's FTDI driver.

What's the current state of affairs with downloading data from Joule GPS into the software?  My 500 is dying and I'm borrowing a Joule GPS for an upcoming trip and want to make sure I have a GC setup that has highest probability of actually working.

I haven't had any major issues downloading my Joule GPS data to GC (v3.1). Minor issues yes. All my issues I've always been able to fix via post-import editing. My biggest issue is when using the interval mode (in interval mode, not lap mode) on the Joule. I have issues with GC interval interpretation and the timestamps. Just for review, the interval mode (interval) mode is set up for training with recovery periods b/w intervals. Press Joule GPS button to start interval and once again to end it. Rest period not considered an interval. Then repeat to start and end interval 2 and so on. The intervals aren't tracked properly upon import to GC, which I manually correct. A slightly larger issue is that the timestamps get messed up too. I end up with slightly overlapping timestamps, particularly around interval starts. And also some time period skips. Everything seems to basically be there - I just fix the timestamps, manually select the intervals and all the data analysis is good. The "ride" graphic however doesn't seem to always get updated with my edits - but I haven't really investigated that issue. Sorry, don't know how v.4 is handling this stuff.

Dear Adam,

Could you send a file (bin2 in your download folder) in interval mode ? Not sure it was implemented.
Thank you.

Hi Guys,
This is a go-back on this driver issue:
I've installed the D2XX FTDI driver.  How in the world do you disable the Apple FTDI driver on OS X 10.7.5?  I can still not get either PowerAgent or Golden Cheetah to acknowledge the existence of a Joule GPS plugged into my laptop via USB, I've got a years worth of data that I'm trying to import.
Thanks for any ideas.
Joe

Joe,
I'm a little late to your half of the conversation ... have you also tried updating the firmware on your Joule GPS (via Power Agent)?

Hey Adam,
Downloaded Power Agent 7.8.28 and also tried with version 7.9.7, also running Java v8 Update 101 as prompted by Power Agent.  I'm running Joule GPS firmware 19.076 - not sure if this is the most recent - I can't update the firmware since Power Agent can't talk to the joule GPS.  So, still no success.  Neither Power Agent nor Golden Cheetah can access the joule GPS device which is plugged in with functional wires since I can see the recharging lightning bolt on the device.  Other thoughts?  Thanks, Joe.

Maybe contact CycleOps support as it fails with their software too?

Thanks Claus,
Yes, device is on the way to CycleOps - I'll report back any findings - thanks, Joe.

Are you sure it's not a charging-only cable, or that the data lines didn't get messed up?  I've had cables get kinked enough that data transmission stops working but charging is okay.

Hey Chris - thanks for the comment.  The cable's not kinked or damaged as best I can see.  I believe it's a data cable as well, but there are no CycleOps notes anywhere on these cables to indicate cable type (i.e. they just ship generic looking cables with the device).  I'm going to send the cable back also just to be sure.

Still no solution to this Mac OS X - PowerAgent-Joule GPS issue.  Cable from Joule GPS confirmed as a data cable.  Poweragent and Golden cheetah still not able to even recognize the Joule GPS for subsequent download.  Trying all sorts of ideas with Saris (new java, old java, clean up the java, uninstall, reinstall).  This is a little like Edison eventually inventing the light bulb - staying optimistic- thanks for any ideas - best, joe

I have the same issue. Fortunately, I have an older laptop running OS 10.8.3 and PowerAgent 7. With the older system I'm able to download the workouts and can export to Strava, etc.

As has been mentioned, I believe it's the issue with the Apple ftdi driver but I've been unable to find a fix with my OS 10.10.5 system.
