R 3.3.0 installed
GC 4.0 1605 (/Library/Frameworks/ set as R folder in prefs)

Upon starting GC:

We failed to find the R shared libraries
The dynamic library load failed

any suggestions

Set $R_HOME or in options.
What OS are you on and what does R report as the home ?

i.e.

$ R
> R.home()
...
> q()

sorry. Mac OS 10.11.2
R home is Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Resources

I have tried Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Resources
                   Library/Frameworks/R.framework/
                   Library/Frameworks/
all to no avail. I will try the full dir again and see what happens...

You don't have to guess.
Run the R you installed, type R.home() and it will tell you.

I'm not guessing! the full dir path was the result of R.home(). When that didn't work I tried the shorter versions of the path.

Oh :)

The pathname you showed was relative, i.e. it starts Library/... when we need a full path i.e. /Library/...

What does R.home() actually return?

"/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Resources"

It is now working! It must have been a simple syntax/typing error

That location is searched by default on OSX, if you don't have anything configured :)

Glad its working

The same problem remain with R share libraries...
 I've download R and Rstudio, maybe could be  the problem...

Thank you for your help

Make sure you are running 3.4
Make sure you have R enabled in Preferences since it is disabled when not found
Make sure you set the path correctly in preferences to match R.home

OK. I'm not very tech savvy. I just install GC 3.4, but the "R" installation didn't install - not that I really know what it is, but the message I get every time I open GC is bothersome:

"We failed to find the R shared libraries.

The dynamic library load failed.

R has now been disabled in options."

I've opened preferences and tried to add a library and to select the R checkbox, but I still get the error message upon opening GC. Please help. I'm on a Mac running 10.12.1.

Wacomme,

This is strange. I don't have any path entered in the "R Installation Directory" field and have R set to enable in the checkbox. It works for me and does not show this message.

Not sure why this works, but try it.

If it is occuring every time you start then GC is not being closed properly.

Then how do I close properly? I have GC doing a backup every time I close. Is that the problem?
