Hi

Currently using GC on a Windows laptop which has just about died.

What is the best way of taking the data from the old laptop onto a new
Windows laptop without losing all my ride history?

I'm currently using v2.

Thanks

Related to this; I believe it's possible to sync to Dropbox, etc so that I can backup, access from multiple PCs, etc.  Can anyone confirm how I acheive this, what settings to change, etc.

Thanks

Follow the WIKI for:

Just install into Dropbox somewhere and make the folders as described.

Old your old PC, start GC.
Click the Help menu then the About Golden Cheetah item.
At the bottom you will see "Ride files and other data are stored in"
Below that text is a link to where data is store.
Click it and Windows Explorer should open.
Go up one directory and copy the directory of the Athlete(s) you are after.

On the new PC, start GC and do the above to get to the main GC directory in Explorer.
Close GC and copy the files across.
Start GC and your files will be in place.

I tried to follow the latest wiki:

I installed v3 to my USB; set up a  "/Library/GoldenCheetah-v3/Richard" folder and copied in my "Richard/*FILES*" directory from my old pc

But GC does't find the files.  It appears to still want to look in C:/Users/Richard/AppData/Local/GoldenCheetah/Richard

Am I doing something wrong?  Many thanks.

Drop the -v3 from GoldenCheetah-v3. That was for when we were doing development work and it didn't cause issues with the old version 2.x data.

For production release it is the same as the v2 instructions.

Thanks.  Now sorted on new pc (on USB)

I added a sub folder with my Athlete Profile name and copied the contents into this folder (worth adding to the wiki?):
"/Library/GoldenCheetah/Richard"

I haven't tested in a 2nd PC, that is next.  I may also move to Dropbox as that could be easier (presumably cut/paste USB contents to hard drive, thwen run the GC exectuable file).

I can see that my .fit files were all in this folder.  If I drop new files into the library will they auto import into GC?

In the golden cheetah preferences you can tell golden cheetah which folder to auto import from, it won't auto import until you fill in the folder path for that setting

Hi

I started using GC few months ago and today got a crash. I used to save my data in dropbox with a file like GC_3957_Moi_2018_01_26_13_05_09.zip.

How can I load my past activities with the same configuration (charts-color ...) ? I tried to follow the process you wrote earlier but doesn't seem to work.

Thanks for your help.

This is an old thread, currently the procedure to restore a backup is documented in the Wiki for Linux: https://github.com/GoldenCheetah/GoldenCheetah/wiki/FAQ-DATA#how-do-i-restore-an-athletes-backed-up-ride-data, it is similar albeit simpler on other OS.
