Hey guys.

GC newbie here. What does the red curve in the CP chart mean? And if I look at it at the 1h mark, as below, can this be my FTP, e.g. 251 watts as seen below?

Also when looking at the Critical Power calculator my assumption would have been that a 20 minutes effort would have been 105% of the FTP. But that doesn't seem to be the case here.

Shouldn't the critical power be 95.23 (100/1.05) watts then?

CP60 is the same thing as FTP, isn't it?

Best, Mariano

Welcome to GoldenCheetah!!

Yes, the red CP curve looks at the bests for the period selected and derives the optimal values. It is no replacement for proper testing but does help those with limited power data to estimate things when they get started.

The calculator does pretty much the same thing.

Mark

I may be mistaken b/c I haven't used it but It looks like that CP calculator applies to anyone using the Monod-Scherrer testing method. Here's a quick backgrounder: http://www.twowheelblogs.com/training-with-power/critical-power-testing

Monod-Scherrer is Deadly Sin #3

I take it back. The 'calculator' looks like its just looking for an average. I have never used it.

Anyone on the list know the history? It seems to be way off to me?

CP60 is indeed equivalent to FTP.

Mark

PS; just pushing an update to rename it 'Estimator' not 'Calculator' ...

Thanks guys.

I was baffled by the estimated CP value being larger than the input value I gave it.

I think the mistake I made was only entering the value for 20 minutes but leaving the value for a shorter period at 0. I did this because I only had one value and thought it would use that, e.g. dividing it by 1.05. Entering just one value seems to throw the estimation though.
