sorry for the off-topic post, but i have a file from my garmin edge
500 that i cannot load into GC.

i did my normal procedure (which is to hit stop at the end of a
workout, then later connect to my computer), but i received a
'truncated file error message from GC. this hasn't happened before. i
quickly checked and noticed the file size was only 6kb, which is too
low for a 1h20m workout w/ power.

is there any chance i have of recovering the data? normally it would
just be disappointing, but this was a structured workout with really
good info that i want to provide to a coach.

of note:
1) there is a "Delete Files" directory with 2 .fit files (named
Device_<numeric code>.fit) whose timestamp is quite similar to the
time i ended the session (the first file) and the time i tried the
upload -- the files are only 4kb each, though.
2) there is an "ExtData" directory with 2 .BIN files (ARC.BIN and
BEE.BIN) whose timestamp is about near the end of the session. They
are 156 and 344kb, respectively.

is there any hope of a recovery?

many thanks for any help or leads.

There is a thread somewhere on the Garmin site (don't have the link)
where you can post your FIT file and someone there works a little
magic on it if it is possible.

Or you can send it to me, and I'll dig the tools out of the kit and see what I can do. (I was just reading the FIT spec over breakfast, post-ride.)

thanks so much, guys.

gareth: files were posted in that very thread. my issue is a little
time sensitive as this coach is
doing an evaluation of me (whether or not he wants to take me on vs
other clients), so while i
am hopeful that the gentleman from garmin might respond, i think it's
unlikely to happen
quickly (it's already the weekend). also, his success ratio is not
100%.

jim: files on the way.

thanks for the replies and help. it is VERY much appreciated.

Wow. Nice start to a beautiful relationship.

can't tell if you are being sincere or sarcastic, so i'll assume the
former.

it actually seems reasonable to me. we were doing a 2-week trial that
is, indeed, a trial period for both of us. it is good to test our
communication and style (works both ways). he's been looking at my
data and providing feedback, but this was data from the last day and
most intense (for me) workout.

i am hopeful that the absence of this file will not adversely affect
the decision, but i think it could have had only a positive effect.
after the workout, i was quite proud (and of course i still got the
benefits of the workout), only to find a minute later the data was
truncated. d'oh! :)

I was being sarcastic :)

But I think I may have gone horribly off-topic!

Cheers,
