[Golden-Cheetah-Users] Performance Manager Tab Terminology and How to Use

I realize creating a tutorial and written description of how to
effectively use Golden Cheetah is a work in progress. I'd be happy to
contribute my time with this aspect of the open source program, but
I'm a power meter beginner. My primary source of information is Allen
and Coggan's book, Power Meter. For the most part I'm able to
extrapolate references from the WKO+ program to Golden Cheetah. A big
part of this transference was learning Bikescore is roughly equivalent
to TSS and xPower roughly equivalent to NP.

However, the information in the Performance Manager Tab behooves me.
I'm now sure how to transfer what I've learned in the Power Meter book
and their references to WKO+ and Training Stress Balance to the Golden
Cheetah data. For instance, I see no reference to CTL and ATL. Is the
graph equivalent to TSB? What do the acronyms STS, LTS, and SB mean
and how do I use them.

The Performance Manager Tab is the type of information I'm seeking
most this season. Having recently lost 100 lbs. of a 120 lb. weight
gain following a crash and broken hip eight years ago leading to a
completely sedentary life, I'm spending this season building a base
and increasing my overall fitness. Thus, I want to train at maximal
efficiency and feel TSB would be most useful to my goals.

I'm similar to you in that this is my first season using a power meter
and that my knowledge comes from "Training and Racing with a Power
Meter". I believe that the the analog between GC and WKO+ in the
Performance Manager chart is thus:

ATL = Short Term Stress
CTL = Long Term Stress
TSB = Stress Balance

I'm certain someone will chime in with a more detailed description of
the nuance differences, and I'd be thrilled to see those or be
corrected outright.

Yep.

Skiba's BikeScore in GC is calculated in a different way from Coggan's TSS
but in real life it is pretty close to the same.

I used the same methods as WKO uses for ATL, CTL and TSB
to generate STS, LTS and SB from BS.
(wow, that's quite a load of acronyns!)


For training I primarily go by LTS/CTL and only secondarily
look at SB/TSB. SB just shows how fast I am accumulating stress, LTS shows
what my stress level is at. Just asking around it seems that different
athetes have a different idea what an appropriate LTS is for them
(say when peaking for an A race). I've used 120 in the past
as it's about as much as I can handle (found through experience).
Someone else I know can hit 150 without a problem. A teamate
who is faster than I am feels he's at his limit at 90.
(we're all doing long road races, I'm not comparing road racers
and crit specialists).
